Anonymous sources confirm that Diablo III is headed to the Nintendo Switch

hooray sorta

You currently cannot play Diablo III on as many different platforms as you can play, say, Skyrim. But it looks like the number of available platforms will go up soon; Gamespot is reporting that anonymous sources indicate the title is indeed coming to the Nintendo Switch. Those sources have nothing to say on the topic of whether or not the game’s expansions will be included, but one can certainly assume that will be the case.

So why the silence after an earlier tease for exactly this? Well, it may be because Nintendo seems to prefer to remain tight-lipped about these ports until they’re closer to release, or it may be that the current testing is more about seeing if it’s doable than specifically making it happen. Or it could just be willful obtrusiveness, or the anonymous sources are wrong. You get to decide!

Makes sense, Switch is selling like hotcakes.

I’m curious, could the fans of D3 explain to me what they actually enjoy about the game?

I gave in and bought the game a couple of years ago, based on it’s popularity, but I found it to be utterly garbage! The actual minute-by-minute gameplay was awful, just a lot of click-movement and spamming of skills, tons of floating numbers and that was about it.

It was vaguely satisfying getting new gear / levels / skills but I never got a feeling of progression because you could never really see them put to good use. The floating numbers got bigger, but so did the enemies. It seemed like the entire game was built around tricking you into thinking you were doing well or progressing, but when you actually stopped and considered the game, it wasn’t. It just felt like a glorified meat grinder to me.

I get why Blizzard would do this, but it is still irritating for those of us on the PC watching Blizzard pretty much do nothing with the game when its time for Diablo 4 or Diablo Online, or whatever the next version ends up being. Diablo 3 has been milked as much as its going to on the PC with its lack of new content and repetitive seasons so of course adding it to the Switch will bring in some fresh revenue.

Lol mop, it’s not confirmed unless it’s official, therefore by definition anonymous sources cannot confirm anything.

On the other hand I wish they would release Breath of the Wild for PC…
I can’t bear to play anything other than Mario Kart with a controller.

Ah, that I would play! For hours and hours and hours too.

Not a fan of D3 but as a switch owner, I can see the money flood in for Blizz.

The Switch is a great console it’s convenient, easy to use and generally well designed. Because of that owners like me are looking for games to add to our libraries.

I won’t play D3 on my PC. But will definitely try it out on the Switch.

The Switch is really hot so I can see the appeal.

Remember that for Overwatch Blizzard did a simultaneous, worldwide launch on Windows, PS4 & XBone, which always struck me as professional instead of countries and/or platforms lagging behind.

P.S. The Pendant Police quibble with the verb in “ANONYMOUS SOURCES CONFIRM.”

I suppose the installed base is large enough to warrant the effort. It was WC3 the one rumored to be possibly in the works for mobile platforms, correct?

It feels kinda “late” as a commercial move but hey… if there’s something I’d rather wonder is why WoW has -not- been released on console. Much greater effort, I know, but… yeah
