Trion looking into RIFT Prime XP issue, says Carnival should be arriving next week

We're not dead yet.

Had a few issues with running out of XP from doing quests on RIFT Prime’s new progression server? You’re not alone, pal. Following concern and feedback from players on the slower-than-expected intake of XP (which was apparently set up to mimic the rate of gain at the 2011 launch), Trion Worlds said that it is looking to improve the situation with careful tweaks.

“We are looking into things and are planning on solving it with a scalpel and not a sledgehammer,” the team said on today’s livestream. Linda Carlson followed this up with a post on the forums: “XP is under review and being revised RIGHT NOW. Rift and invasion exp is definitely being retuned as well. I don’t have the ETA, but can guarantee it’s ASAP.”

Trion encouraged both the regular server community and the Prime server community to get along and not to snipe at each other. It emphasized that the studio is not giving priority to either server type and said that, if all goes well, the Carnival event will be arriving across the entire game next week.

the exp from rifts and invasions are honestly better than at launch. but the questing exp is clearly worse.

but unlike at original launch the rifts and invasions were actually worth doing at all exp wise + it seems they added more useful gear to the invasions rewards vendors.

one of my guildies keeps going on about how he’s saving up to buy a storm legion soul for warrior tho. not sure that’s intended to be in yet lol

The souls are intended, but the grind to get to them is optional. I won’t expect to get more than the SL soul during Classic, nor more than the NMT soul during SL, nor more than the POA soul during NMT part of Prime. Tens of thousands of planarite? Okay, but when I get around to it.

From Discord:

UPDATE (no downtime needed): Dev has just adjusted up the XP for invasions, rifts, footholds, collossi and zone events. Enjoy!
Brasse – Today at 02:36

CaptainCursor wanted me to let folks know that there will be FOURTEEN new carnage quests active in Silverwood as of next Wednesday’s patch.
If any Defiants start to raise eyebrows, it’s just to bring Silverwood in line with what ye already have!

The xp is actually fine, it’s just that people are not going back to pick up the dailies and stuff like that. I’ve got to 16 without grinding anything. That being said, the xp from rifts is pretty low for the effort, so it could do with a small bump.

I’ve done all content (dailies, events, quests, warfronts) and I’m still consistently at least 1-2 levels behind where I need to be. I had to grind a couple hours at the boosted rifts/events to get to the Lv 17 I need to be for Iron Tomb. Its really not enough. I’m even using an addon to find every quest. Maybe this is just in the teens, but its here.

Reader

I honestly didn’t have to do that, but anyway the xp is increased now so it shouldn’t be grinding rifts any more, just doing a couple in between quests.

I’m still Lv 18 doing everything in the zone possible except for Iron Tomb (I’m even doing the kill undead achievement). I’ll be Lv 19 max from doing Iron Tomb. Yes, its slow. Possible, and draws one into doing events, but slow. And Trion know this and is working on it. Its not excruciating, but it is restricting.

They just announced in-game that they boosed rifts, invasions and other zone event exp. And no, you have plenty of time to catch up.

Looks like people is happy about Prime. Maybe I should take a look since I played a lot of RIFT before.

Reader

Having a blast, so weird seeing so many people.

So if you don’t start playing the first day, are you behind the surge and left playing on your own?

Reader

I guessing yes, but it basically would be the same on non prime server too. Always empyt low level zones. But you can always find stragglers most likely. I thinking in joining myself what would make me a straggler too.

Eh… sorta. Throughout the game in Live, there’s various systems to encourage some lower level content play, but the design isn’t focused on it and there’s the F2P urge to only do the top content in order to keep up at all. But on Prime, there’s already clearly a different sort of design that sounds like it’ll encourage people hang around lower content more and keep more relevant rewards and difficulty while doing so (I could describe them if you wish). If there’s any active server going on, I expect Classic (Lv 1-50) content to keep with players for at least the rest of this year. It looks like there’s some learned lessons.

What you’ll be missing are the ‘Prime Challenges’ they’re doing monthly. So far, they’ll be rewarding titles and a mix of secret things like mounts (probably no new ones, or at least no permanently new exclusive ones). But only dozens (unknown if hundreds) of players will even get these rewards, even if they attempt the challenges.

You will also, obviously, miss the ‘surge’ itself, but for many people that’s fine. No one blocking your progress in quests, or pumping up world boss HP by their presence, or flooding the queue as DPS, etc.

I think you’ll be fine.

I’m a slow leveler and just hit 10 today because I’m being a completionist and started crafting. There’s lots of players still around the low level areas. When I logged out an hour ago, it took a while to complete a kill 10 quest because everyone was killing the mobs before I could dash over and get a shot in! But I did fill up my backpack with leather after buthering the mobs laying around! Also took a couple breaks from that to hit rifts when they popped. Both times were full raids.

I don’t think there’s danger of being the last player standing in a zone for awhile.

Not at all, it’s been slow paced levelling and the starter areas are packed, every rift that opens is pretty much a full raid group. PVP queues are less than a minute. Sure, two months down the line it might be a fair bit quiet at lower levels but now it’s packed.

the questing zones i’ve been doing in freemarch are less crowded than the first day but still plenty of people arounnd especially durign invasions.

Do the occasional invasion, close a bunch of rift, and farm up void stones for pretty powerful planar gear. Bang out 7 warfront wins. Then, make sure you did all the quests/carnage in the zone using a add-on like Completionist.

You won’t have too much of a hard time leveling. You’ll be spending time in the zone and not cruising through it. Find a party, join a guild, do some dungeon runs. Very good EXP wise if you follow mechanics. If you run in thinking you’ll just melt stuff, you’re in for some pretty bad times.

Have fun, everyone. :)

In the leaderboard poll there was mention of the cash shop still being in the prime server. Can anyone elaborate on that further?

Reader
Video Game Professor

Sure. The cash shop is selling cosmetic items for their premium currency, mounts (that are as fast as your fastest mount), service items (name/race/guild change stuff), and other mounts and bags for in game plat/gold/silver. No boosts, items, or other things that provide any mechanical benefit. You can buy a mount in game at level one if you have 2 platinum and 50 gold or wait twenty two days to get one for free from their daily login system.

So far, no pay to win stuff as far as I can see.

But this Trion. Been burned a few times, but still willing to be cautiously optimistic. This is the most fun I’ve had in an MMO in awhile.

yep if anything it’s more bare bones than expected.

i had been previewing the outfits on the live cash shop in anticipation of buying one or two of the ones i like in prime but none of that stuff was in there.

literally just skin colour packs hair packs and race changes and faction changes type stuff and some low level mounts on the front page of the store.

which i found out to my delight that i can be defiant and change to elf girl for about $15 lol. so now i’m an elf girl :D

They’re adding more cosmetics, dimensions, dyes to the shop soon. But so far, they’re steering clear of the more p2w-ish type stuff.

Reader

My only complaint about the cash shop is I bought the extra skin, hair color packs, as well as the extra hairstyle options pack several years ago on Live, but they don’t carry over to Prime and I would have to pay for them again. That makes me a sad panda, because it was great making unique characters with those, but costs too much to do again, especially since the server will go away in a year and the characters will be tossed onto normal servers at that point, then it will be wasted money. So I’m wary of those sorts of cash shop purchases.

Reader
Reht

Much of the cosmetic stuff you could buy on live is dropping as full set bundles in game. Saw two bundles and one pet in three dungeon runs today.

Reader

They said mounts drop from the final boss too, which is really good.
