Star Wars: The Old Republic seeks more feedback on conquest changes

Fix it.
There are lots of moving parts with the conquest system for Star Wars: The Old Republic, so it was almost inevitable that multiple passes would be needed for improving it. The most recent dispatch from the team makes it clear that this was always the goal; the revamp was meant to be the start of revisions, not the end. So there are already plans in place to change certain things, such as lowering the objective cost for all tiers of conquest.

Players can also look forward to a weekly participation reward always being in the rotation for conquests (it was meant to only be there sometimes, but players wondered where it went). Crafting reductions are being scaled back somewhat while Large and Medium targets are getting more enticing rewards. More feedback is helpful for further tuning, so be sure to jump into the discussion and let the developers know how you feel about the changes so far.

I’ll be delivering my feedback to Bioware one sentence at a time, roughly every 3 weeks* for the next 18 months**.

* Might be 5 weeks.
** Might be 2 years.

Significant sentences may be missing vowels. But vowels can be purchased at my website. Some consonants may be withdrawn without notice.

Bioware are of course welcome to re-read all of my previous feedback as often as they like for as long as they like for free. I invite them to repeat re-reading my old feedback often.

Bioware employees are required to stand up whilst reading my feedback, although chairs may be available in limited situations later.

That rodian is so ashamed he’s trying to hide his face :P

On my server there’s the possibility of no one winning in the top tier, the leaders are 1000 from the objective, second place is 1600 from the objective, and third place is 1800 from the objective, in fact the leaders of bottom tier would be third in the top tier if they had aimed for that.

Without any numbers involved anyone can tell that smaller eligible activities, and smaller point yield for activity versus an higher objective will fail, if someone described these changes i could tell they would fail, and so could any programmer anywhere, this is the work of someone with decision power who doesn’t really understand maths.

If they actually wanted feedback, they wouldn’t heavily censor all the feedback they get. For starters, you can only post on the forums if you’re a subscriber. And even if you’re a subscriber, if your criticism hits them too close to home, they will delete your posts and threads. They don’t want to hear how people really feel and think because that would make them quasi-responsible for the decline of the game. Instead, they’re looking for softball responses that largely congratulate Bioware while only citing minor issues instead of the gross problems facing the game.

Absolutely baffling how Austin consistently manages to deliver feature updates that are so completely out of touch with things that appeal to the player base. It’s so bad that it feels intentional.

I’m having an incredibly hard time coming up with any rational explanation. The best I’ve got is that somebody high-up is so entrenched in mobile gaming they don’t get that just doesn’t work for MMO’s and they’ve got the power to issue decrees without having to listen to anybody.

This isn’t a one time occurrence either. It took mass unsubs for them to even consider adjusting – not fixing – adjusting GC to be a little less heinous. Unfortunately it looks like it’ll require another player revolt to get Austin to act like humans for once.

I really haven’t heard anything more since Samantha Ryan was made SVP at EA with Bioware being one of the things she was in charge of. Her previous position was SVP of EA Mobile.

Maybe the past couple of years have been her mobile gaming past being fitted into SWTOR? *Shrug* just more to ponder I suppose.

I feel bad for the SWTOR devs sometimes. Really, I do. It is a no win situation for them sometimes and not of their own making on occasion.

But for their so called Conquests there is a fundamental flaw that they will never overcome and that is that grouping a series of existing in game activities does not make anything a conquest!

To conquest a planet, area, town, whatever, by definition, you have to take it by force and that means feet on the ground siege scenarios: Real versus realm, faction versus faction, guild versus guild, or any mix of that in full blown PvP combat for control of a resource.

There are no conquests in SWTOR. So, you want to fix something? Start there. Oh, the game engine can’t handle that? Ok, call it the SWTOR Olympics and proceed with your series of events.

My point is, words have meaning, you know? Perhaps people would have a different attitude toward this content if you didn’t call it something it is not.

IMO I think it should be called “Galactic alerts”

When they launched they were pretty competitive, but once you’ve won there’s no real reason to keep on winning, the rewards are pretty insignificant and if you already have the title you’re just doing it for fun, or to keep others from winning which is a assbackwards way is competitive.

the game has low population but the ques was good because people was doing on multiple alts pvp, gsf, flashpoints, and operations. What i saw on the patch notes fixes only the pvp and the gsf isue and only for 1 character per legacy. This is my feedback fix all of those areas because even with the same pop the acivity will fall significantly, and this will lead to players quitting

The ability to disappoint and knack for failure from this development team never ceases to amaze me.

Curious to see how much they end up changing this. Such hate for 5.8 conquest changes on the forums! They do make some boneheaded changes but using expletives against the devs is not the best way to voice your displeasure, even if you’re thinking them!
