Bless Online shakes up and builds out its combat system

With its early access debut coming next month, Bless Online has a lot riding on how well it can present itself to a western market. Renovations and adjustments continue apace on the fantasy MMORPG, with the combat system receiving a top-to-bottom revamp in order to please future consumers.

The dev team said that it looked through the classes’ combat skills and “restructured their composition and effects” for the upcoming release. This revamp includes changes to rhythmic combat, incentives for grouping, and more ways to skill up your character.

It also emphasized, yet again, that the buy-to-play title will not feature pay-to-win aspects. “Bless Online’s monetization system will be user friendly,” the team said, going on to point out how the two main in-game shops work in conjunction with each other.

Super surprised on the shift from tab target, that might be enough to make me check it out at least.

I think it’s still tab target. They have an action mode that some classes can use but wouldn’t work well for others like ranged. The combo system is the main new part of combat as far as I can tell, but doesn’t change targeting.

Yuck that’s disappointing, probably I’ll let this one pass me by then.

several revealing items here, indicate they’re going to struggle

the old “we think MMOs are meant to be played a certain way”, as well as the cash-shop PvP avoidance says they’re going to alienate playerbase unnecessarily

the constant claims about no PtW seems like they do “protest too much”

drastic changes to basic game systems means they lack a coherent vision and are reduced to flinging crap and seeing what sticks

lack of communication – geez that looks bad – starting off your dev blog by admitting you haven’t been ‘sharing’ enough info then make a bunch of claims/promises without much specific

this game may be the Chosin One (see what I did there?), a Korean MMO that doesn’t suck, (I mean really, Pearl Abyss? where Pearls are the real money token and the cash shop is the abyss) but these early indications from the community management side don’t bode well

I get another Archage or BDO feel for this game now. The whole having to buy something to avoid PVP just doesn’t sit right to me either. Will be interesting to see how it goes when it launches.

late game is shared conflicting faction quest zones & battle grounds, so the PvP protection item is a compromise since so many people are concerned about getting ganked while questing (which is the point of the game: you are supposed to kill the other guys) but trying to shut that off would break the game design and trying to make new zones that are not shared PvP areas would be too much work.

They are trying to give people what they want, but also not break design to do it.

*shrug*

some people will still bitch and whine, but the fact of the matter is that this game is a PvP centric title … either take it or leave it, but the developers are not going to rebuild the whole damn thing from the ground up just to give us a PvE version (even though I myself would really like that).

Come on a new game with actual good tab target combat and they change it to combo action combat only?Lets go for another blade and soul or tera clone. Hard pass. Who will play it?There are like 50 new mmos that are exactly like that. At least with tab target the good mmos are pretty old. Less competition.

Korea lost their shit about it being tab target, so they knee jerked and tried to go to a hybrid system, and Korea lost their shit at that too.

It’s not combo action combat. It’s still tab target. Have you ever played Aion or Cabal Online? Both tab target games with combo systems.

Still no comment on if they will or will not lock out personal transactions …

As I told them on the forums: your answer will determine if I lock out transactions between NeoWiz and my Wallet.

“It also emphasized, yet again, that the buy-to-play title will not feature pay-to-win aspects.”

Said every single korean MMO out there before putting p2w stuff in game. Be them f2p or b2p.

It’s pointless to for them to even mention avoiding P2W since there is no standard definition and P2Whiners will never accept any re-assurance. The only way to avoid accusations of P2W is to simply not have a cash shop, an aspect which is ubiquitous to MMOs because MMO players vote with their wallets and use cash shops which in turn ensure the survival of an MMO.

After reading that I would need to pop something to stay pve and once at cP to use the shop?, going to just wait and see how it goes here

It’s a largely PvP game sort of like how Aion was. Full PvE content including dungeons, etc. but a big focus on open world faction based PvP as well as instanced faction PvP. Also like Aion no PvP or PvE servers, just one type for everyone. So that’s why they have an item for turning PvP off since it’s not intended gameplay.

And before reaching level cap (45) you can buy the PVP-safe item from in game vendors for gold. Once you hit 45 you have to buy that item from the cash-shop, but you can use loyalty points (earned in game). Open World PVP will only be common in contested areas. Controlled areas by your faction will be reasonably safe to quest in.
That all said, this is a PVP game with a full suite of PvE features, so if you are not looking for a PvP game, there are many many PvE games out there to choose from.

The PvP bypass item will probably only be useful when you have an enemy faction trying to camp the entrance to a raid dungeon.

That’s bringing back memories of Aion lol.

This game is like probably more like L3 than Tera was.

Well someone should tell them that’s stupid design. Either have a PvE server or just tell everyone its not a PvE game.
