Star Trek Online improves XP boosters, brings back Delta Recruit event

There’s nothing like an expansion to draw interest and attention back to an older MMO, and Star Trek Online is enjoying such a period in its lead up to the launch of Victory is Life. For those currently playing or returning to the game, you might be interested to know that a patch has landed today with a few nice bonuses.

Shrewd captains who use XP boosters will find that while the prices for some of these have gone down, the benefits have increased.

The game has also brought back the Delta Recruit event, in which brand-new characters can experience extra special missions involving the Iconian war and be rewarded with some nifty account-wide goodies. The event is running from April 19th through May 17th.

If you are thinking of trying Star Trek Online, or have been thinking of starting a new STO character, the Delta Recruit event is a really good time to creata a character, as it attaches additional bonuses and goodies to your character which will stay with that character as he or she levels.

Not only that, but every other character on your STO roster will also gain extra benefits from your Delta Recruit character’s progress through the levels.

As CapnLan points out below, you only have to start a character during the Delta Recruit event, and get your character through the tutorial and into the game at large.

Once in STO proper, your character is permanently tagged as a Delta Recruit in the game’s eyes, and that character will continue to receive Delta Recruit benefits, even after the event itself is over.

Is this event only for PC?

The Delta Recruit event is on PC now, and will be brought to XBox One and the PS4 later.

Everything Old is New: Resolved an issue that could cause the mission to break when interacting with McCoy.

YES!!!! I had this happen to me when I did that mission. Annoyed me like crazy. Had to beam up/down a zillion times to get it to finally work.

Are there any reasons to complete the Delta Recruit events with more than one character, like one from each faction? I know there are some generous character-bound rewards along the way that are nice to have, but for the account unlocks is there anything new you get from doing captains on the other factions besides the first on you finish with?

The Delta Recruit character passes on certain benefits to every character on your account (your other characters typically have to collect these benefits in person from the NPC Philip Crey, who stands outside of Admiral Quinn’s office on Earth Spacedock).

I only have one Delta Recruit character, so I don’t know if having more than one Recruit character is worthwhile. I’m inclined to think not, as I’ve never heard anyone in my Fleet talking about this, and the Fleet I’m in has a lot of Fleeties who are very up on bonuses, goodies, and free stuff. :-)

Cheers,

Wow. I hoped they would have a new event, but re-running the old ones is even better. I still hope they have a Gamma Recruit event to go with the launch, but I’m really glad to see the Delta event return, which I missed the first time. I hope this means that the Temporal recruit event will follow from mid-May to the June launch as well.

And now I know what I’m doing for the next couple months.

By the way, in case anyone knows: My understanding is that you only have to create a character during the window in order to have it flagged for the event, and you can finish your leveling and achievements on it at any time to earn the rewards.

Is that correct, or do you have to complete all the check offs and get your full rewards during the event window in order to have them unlocked for the account?

Correct. You only need to create the character and finish the tutorial during the event. Once you get the event item in your inventory, it’s there forever. You can then take as much time as you want to finish it all.

The Delta Recruit event is really good so if you missed it the first time I highly recommend you run it. The account wide unlocks are really good and they benefit any new character you create at a later date. So if you plan to make a new Jem’Hadar or Cardassian when the expansion drops, you will have all those Delta rewards unlocked for your new character.

Are Jem’Hadar/Cardassian characters going to have their own story arc/faction, or will they be forced to go through Federation/Klingon content?

From what I understand, Jem’Hadar will start at level 60 and have a short story arc just for themselves. That’s why they only have T5/T6 ships. After that they will choose Fed or KDF. Cardassians are looking to just be an additional species choice for Feds and KDF. It looks like the Cardassian ships are going to be usable for all factions.

Even the Dominion ships will be usable for all factions once your JH completed a Tier 6 Mastery.

I started a female Talaxian Tac this morning. That Fed tutorial is very, very long. I returned to the game when they were doing Temporal Agents, and the account rewards from that were spectacular.
