Time travel-themed ARPG Lost Epoch launches Kickstarter and puts out demo

How is it even possible to make a Diablo-style game more awesome than the original? Easy — you toss in time travel. Now things get interesting.

“Time travel meets the online ARPG” is the premise of Last Epoch, which will send players across four distinct eras to murder everything in the vicinity. For loot reasons, you understand. The game features five base classes, 10 mastery classes, a branching skill system, game seasons, crafting, and all of the rewards you expect out of such games.

The title recently launched a Kickstarter campaign seeking $210,000 for the pre-alpha title. If all goes well, alpha will begin this August, beta in April 2019, and a full release during April 2020. The cool thing is that you can try out the demo right now for free before deciding if this a project you wish to support.

Can I just say I’ve always hated the class name “Bladedancer”?

It always makes me think of those very pretentious “interpretive dance troupes”, and some melodramatic performer strutting about the stage in a leotard, making slash-y patterns in the air with a stage sword, and occasionally doing “jazz hands” with their off-hand in time to some strange, atonal musical score.

Bladedancer. No. Just No.

Not that I’ve thought about this, or anything …

Not bad for pre alpha. But they need to add more punch to combat visual effects. So that you felt your spells are hitting your enemies

Why do all ARPGs use the same inventory system? I always hated it in Diablo and you can never carry enough stuff. Always micro-managing it…

Its for that exact reason. Managing inventory or going back to town is a key part of an ARPG looter.

That’s what makes it fun – that you need to manage your inventory and what to take with you. Deeablow Tree shat on this concept by making all big items take two spaces, while small items took one space, whereas in Diablo II the big items like spears would take eight spaces. It kind of reminds me of the concept of Ultima games where your items don’t actually fit into spaces, which can be messy, but it’s a cool idea nevertheless.

I hate to be ‘that guy.’ but please stop pronouncing ‘epoch’ with a long e.

Both pronunciations are valid, i prefer the long e version, its the british version, the short e is more american.

Lol thats like asking Canadians to stop their thing with the letter “O”…people gonna pronounce things differently depending on where they’re at in the world bud.

The other way is nearly indistinguishable from ‘epic’ and these two words could easily cross. Im american and say ‘ee-pock’ https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/pronunciation/english/epic
