Battle Bards Episode 120: Short stuff

Look down — and it’ll be the last thing you’ll ever see! That’s because fury and death arrive in the form of short character races in MMORPGs. Even if they hit below the belt, their music is sweet to the ears! In this episode of Battle Bards, the crew take on themes from Gnomes, Halflings, Dwarves, and other short races in MMOs.

Battle Bards is a bi-weekly podcast that alternates between examining a single MMO’s soundtrack and exploring music tracks revolving around a theme. MOP’s Justin co-hosts with bloggers Steff and Syl. The cast is available on iTunesGoogle PlayTuneInPocket CastsStitcher, and Player.FM.

Ah, Battle Bards are back! I have to say, this podcast is becoming one of my favorites. :)

So, music of the diminutive races. Yes. Sometimes neglected, but important. The dreaded tropes play a role, but I do like the fact that these races which include Dawrves, Haflings, Gnomes, and others, seem to take us back to the natural and not the supernatural, IMO.

Check this track out. I’m pretty sure you have heard it given all the music you cover. But in “short”, it perfectly illustrates Lyns a small humanoid race with woodland creature characteristics.

Lyns are cute by default, and not only short, but small. They move around with the agility of little creatures and are just as adorable. But, here’s the rub and what I love about them. They are extremely powerful and the juxtaposition of these tiny beings destroying mobs 10 times their size is just delightful. Lol.

Thanks guys you all do such a great job. I have always said this is one of the most unique podcasts about the mmo genre we have.

Keep up the excellent work Syp, Sly, and Steff!
FOR Gnomeregan!!!

IronSalamander8 .

It was odd switching from troll main to goblin main, the height difference was a shock! I have to stand on the table at the Darkmoon Faire to shoot the targets as an example!

I’m not short, I’m just not as endowed in the vertical. >.>

Also known fact: A tall Lyn can be the same height as a small Jin!

Indeed. But the shortest Lyn, can’t see over the tall grass. Lol

Oh, btw. Some enterprising and talented soul created mods that create Lyn Destroyers and Assassins. And full combat works just fine and the animations look good for the most part.

So… don’t be surprised if more classes open up for the Lyns. It seems the work is already done.
