EverQuest II streamlines its item examine window in GU106, Seeds of Vengeance

If you’ve ever taken a look at an item tooltip in EverQuest II and had the distinct impression that you were being prepared for a calculus exam, it might not have been just your lack of comprehension. Daybreak agrees that the item examine screen has grown too “cluttered,” and as such, the studio will be streamlining it for this month’s content update.

Some of the big changes that players will notice is a column format to group related stats together, a separate area for item effect descriptions, and more.

This revamp is coming on May 24th with GU106 and is only the tip of the iceberg for the patch’s offerings: “This game update is packed full of new content, including a return to the Shard of Hate where solo players, groups, and raiders will all be confronted with new bosses, puzzles, and locations within the plane that have never been seen before! There will also be new expert dungeons, a revamped item examine window, new missions, and more!”

I’m probably alone in this, but I think it would be awesome if Blizzard would buy the Everquest IP, and make their own version. I would sub in a heartbeat to something like World of Norrath.

Neverending Norrath
Newlands or Norrath
Eternal Everquest

There’s something that would keep the same ‘World of Warcraft’ alliteration. I’m just not able to think of it.

Oooo, They could make Norrath a whole new planet in WoW! That would ROCK!

I know it’s not happening. I know Blizzard isn’t interested at all. I’m just thinking Daybreak might not be so stable, and I hate to see EQ vanish.

also removing some stats would help.Do you need both crit and haste and multiattack and potency and resolve?Merge similar stats into one. Multiattack could easily be removed and just increase crit stat

I love that they think this is streamlining:

I mean, I guess it’s organized better? But still it’s a wall of text and I have to wonder how much of that does any player actually need to know (in a tooltip) to play this game.

So instead of fixing their over-complicated and insanely inflated stats they are just gonna reorganize the examine window and trot it out like its some huge improvement. This is community UI mod stuff here.

What they need to be working on is an aggressive state crunch along with getting rid of a few of them outright.

I continue to be vindicated in my decision to quit playing DBG as a whole, not just a single game.

I hope this is a sign the studio is commited to keeping EQ alive. This whole debacle with CN is just making me worry about the studio too much.
