Capcom posts its best financial year ever thanks to Monster Hunter World

Daunted?

It must have been some time ago at Capcom’s business strategy meeting where the top executives were sitting around and talking in hushed tones about what the company’s development strategy would be. Of course, the whiteboard already had the obvious suggestions on it: a massively unpopular Street Fighter sequel that launched without features, a half-hearted Marvel vs. Capcom installment, pretending Mega Man didn’t exist, etc. And then one lone executive spoke up, saying, “What if we developed a game everyone wanted to play and then released it internationally, so American and Japanese players could both enjoy it?

Except he said it in Japanese, of course. Thus began the story of Monster Hunter World, which ends with Capcom experiencing its best financial year… ever. At any point in history.

More than that, MHW also managed to outsell every other game in the company’s history at 7.9 million copies sold worldwide. Understandably, next year will see a renewed push for live events for the title as its PC version launches later this year. The company is also planning a renewed e-sports push around that aforementioned Street Fighter sequel, because bad habits die hard.

PC release pleeeease. I’ve stopped playing it on the PS4 because my core hunter-friends don’t want to buy it more than once/don’t have PS4s so they are waiting on the PC release.

That said this game is phenomenal and I can’t wait to play it more with my gf and friends.

I tried very hard to like this game but in the end I found it incredibly repetitive, inconsistent and sometimes down right frustrating.

It truly felt like the combat was unfinished. The zones, while nice to look at, are a pain to navigate.

All in all I had very little fun playing this and I fail to see why it gets such great reviews. Cult classic I guess

I did fine, got plenty far. I just found it wasn’t very fun.

If you don’t like the progression loop, that’s fine. However, most of your complaints are unfounded. Monster Hunter is not for everyone.

I’m sorry which one of my comments (opinions) were unfounded?

Lol. It was my experience in the game. I think it sucks. Unfind that!

K if you didn’t want repetitive then you could have picked any other game and it’d be less repetitive.. it is the whole gameplay loop.

Inconsistent? What? It is a skill based game, if there was any inconsistencies, then it’d be on your part.

Frustrating, yeah but so are 95% of games with any form of challenge.

It truly felt like the combat was unfinished. The zones, while nice to look at, are a pain to navigate.

This has the most polished and refined combat in the series IMO. If anything the combos are a bit too forgiving with movement built into the attacks.

The map is incredibly detailed and easy to see. Plus there is quick travel. I can’t imagine how you are having problem with it. The only one I would say is confusing is the Coral highlands because of the vines/updrafts. Hell you even have the scout flies to guide you around to anywhere you want.

In the end I think you are just bad at the game and are not having fun. That’s okay but saying it doesn’t deserve good reviews is silly. If you are having problems with this iteration (the easiest to control and smoothest) then you should stay very far away from the other games in the series. They are much more difficult in every way. Cult classic? Maybe… but I think its massive fanbase would invalidate that. The only place it could be considered that (before MHW) would be outside of Japan. In there it is one of the biggest games.

You’ve spent way too much time trying to convince me that my opinion of this crappy game is wrong. I think the game sucks kid, get off my nuts.

I don’t care if the combat is the best in the series, if that’s the case then you’re right… I’d hate the series.

I’m not going to say the game isn’t hard, I enjoy challenging games and I don’t mind grinds if they’re fun. This game isn’t fun, the combat is old and unintuitive compared to other similar types of games.

In my opinion this game is overrated and more work than fun. Almost like responding to your vehement denial of my opinion.

Maybe I should have just left this convo alone and let whowutwhen say the only thing that needed to be said.

Translation “Im bad at it”.

They’re already doing all kinds of cross-promotions with their other IP’s like Street Fighter and Devil May Cry.

Which I’m SUPER ok with, I love that kind of nonsense.

I legit never expected MHW to blow up the way it has. I expected it to do well, and far better than the Nintendo exclusives, but I’m blown away at how successful it’s been. It’s pretty rad to see and I can’t wait for it to come out on PC.

Now if only Capcom could be that consistently awesome with their releases…

I knew little of Capcom beyond some names, but my impression of the founder went up after he spent some money, if not well, at least in ways I wish I could.
