Neocron begins testing its next patch features

Long-running science-fiction MMORPG Neocron is revving up for another patch cycle, as the team announced this past week that it has begun to test various features and changes on the PTS.

The May update is the first since the one that came back in February and contains a balancing pass for various mobs, a nerf to vehicle projectile and laser damage, new Hacknet CityCom missions, more low-level mobs, more high-level mobs, and various fixes to mobs, scripting, and quests.

Hey, we have an extra paragraph to fill? How about a shameless plug for this author’s retrospective on Neocron’s history? That should fit the bill nicely.

I know this is an old game but it should get more love from game sites like this. The company that made the game handed it over to the community instead of just closing it down. And these guys love the game enough to keep it going and they have really done great things with it. Each update makes the game better and this one sounds like it will be great for new players coming in.

I’m sure people do, yeah.

Yeah, but not really many people.

I tried Neocron. It isn’t bad, but it makes you extremely reliant on other people. It’s also really, REALLY, grindy.

That’s the thing about mmo’s your awalys reliant on other people in one form or another. Which can be A good thing or a bad thing. If this had a population I would probably give it a try . I’m a sucker for scifi mmo’s.

Neocron has TOO much reliance on people. For a sci-fi mmo where betrayal and survival are staples, the game ends up being not much solo-friendly.

For instance: You having to have multiple alts or knowing multiple people to craft a weapon, since you need a engineer and a scientist to make the blueprint and to craft the weapon.

And like i said, it’s really grindy. Most of Neocron’s quests are kill 5 strong mobs that you will spend 5 minutes each to kill.

Nah, there are alot of MMOs where you can easily do 90% of content alone. Id say MMOs where youre very reliant on other people are minority
