Lahn is fully live in Black Desert today, with revamped login rewards tomorrow

Hope you took last week to roll up your Lahn character in Black Desert because today, you can actually tote her out into the world and kick some butt. (The customization contest, note, still runs another week.) Today’s patch further tweaks transportation routes, world and server chat, level-up challenges, and the Black Spirit rage skills.

Starting tomorrow, however, the game will see a rash of new attendance rewards. Black Desert’s login bonuses work such that you claim them in order: If you log in on day 1 and 2, you’ll get the rewards for day 1 and 2, but if you miss day 3, you’ll get the reward for day 3 on day 4. You’ll pick you can grab everything if you log in every single day from tomorrow to June 27th. If you miss a day, you can actually make it up by playing extra on the weekend (rather than just logging in and logging back out), which is a nice touch most MMOs don’t offer.

The highlight item, of course, comes on day 28, when you can pick up an adorable penguin minipet.

Some development teams just don’t understand that when you completely change up how main features play out after a game’s been out for several years, and without testing, it’s going to upset people.

Probably the only thing BDO has as its saving grace is it doesn’t have much competition for the type of MMO is it. Bless will be a diversion for many BDO players, at best, and there’s not another similar system MMO coming out on the market for at least a year.

I do what I’ve always done when it comes to BDO and when I feel I need a break: I play other games actively and play BDO passively. But I will say that Lahn is a blast to play! Even better is their base armors look like they came from the cash shop, so I don’t feel the need to spend real money. I’m currently not buying anything in BDO, as I figure that is more of what devs understand than any amount of negative posting on the forums will do.

I’ll say with all these changes they’ve made to the game recently I’ve started to grow concerned with the game. They’re basically delivering a SWG NGE level changes to the game, but are doing so over the course of many weeks so it’s immensely painful. Many classes seem largely non functional. They seem to be inadvertently breaking things as well, such as my class suddenly lost about 30-50% of it’s damage with no patch note or address why.

They also seem to have most of the staff at each location on lock down and no one from Kakao or any region seems willing to comment on anything. A stream was shut down in South America and a GM left over, what they claim, was being silenced by Pearl Abyss. If you thought Bless’ awkward attempt at a press showing and otherwise was embarrassing it’s actually better than absolutely nothing we seem to be getting outside of the google translated (seriously, not kidding) notes from Pearl Abyss directly.

I thankfully have months of materials to process saved up to weather through these changes, but I’m going to have to question if I want to even keep playing after they’re done. I still immensely enjoy the lifeskill/crafting/economic part of the game, other changes have made the money from grinding exponentially higher than lifeskilling at this point.

Not a fan of log in rewards. I don’t need them and the fact it forces players into playing a mini-game to maximize rewards instead of just playing the game, distracts me badly. Add AFK systems to it and players sometimes DON’T actually play the game and gain more than players who don’t exploit it and just play normally.

I know it’s more an Asian thing but I can’t even fathom how games have turned into this. Are they so terrible that actually playing the game isn’t enough to keep players interested? But, then again, an Asian solo grinder/group gank fest game would likely need it.

AFK income is typically a fraction of what you can make grinding. Like if I went grinding at a top end spot, I could easily pull in 20-30 million an hour. By comparison if I AFK process wood, one of the more lucrative activities, I make roughly 3.5 million an hour or so (depends on wood I chop). The main difference is I can do it when I’m not going to play, such as over night while sleeping or while at work. However even if I did that all day, I’m making around 84m a day where as someone who active grinds for 4 hours will make the same.

The game is actually very enjoyable to play. I hate grinding, and the combat is very fun to play around with. However times like this when there’s so many games and game updates at once (I got World’s Adrift, POE Season coming up, BATTLETECH just came out, Queen and the Crone DLC update for Warhammer 2 coming up, let alone BDO) it’s nice to be able to set it aside, go enjoy something else, and then come back to fat stacks of cash.

My comments were not a review of the game nor meant to be. Also, you cannot improve your running and ability to carry weight by playing normally efficiently. AFK leveling those skills literally took away time for playing for some people until those skills were high enough to compete against those who already leveled theirs. I saw this as an issue. I literally saw my friend’s character running around afk more than I ever saw him play. I’d watch his character run/carry packs while he played another game online.

Basically … WTF? There is a fundamental issue here.

I also played at a time when afk fishing yielded massive rewards. Those players opted out of real playing because the returns were good enough to NOT play compared to the effort to play, and it very obviously impacted how and when they played manually.

My point is that AFK systems in BDO do indeed impact the game. The argument, and yours, is about how much it impacts. My preference is a game that has ZERO impact from such systems as it takes away, however small, from what the core experience could be if so much times wasn’t spend on reshaping an entire game around those systems. Same goes for how cash shops work. No matter how minimal the impact is still impacts the game.

Meanwhile the community is fully tilted and melting down in spectacular fashion.
The Koreans even went so far as to doxx a head Dev and put his address and phone number up for the public and he was sent death threats. But at least Lahn is here, so she can underpreform in another region.

why now. Again I mean. The game’s a mess of course and this event is part of the problem because your penguin is probably a low tier junk pet that you have to destroy for a chance at a better pet, but for that you probably need 2 penguins. And yes you destroy them, not breed them, because normally both parents don’t die by necessity to make offspring.

They are trying to make the game more accessible for new players and change the meta of CC then blowup, but are doing it in the most retarded way possible.

First they added the renown system that gives huge bonuses to people with high gear scores and then the week after that started to do a huge rebalance of all the classes which gutted many of them.

What? I don’t believe you.

Wow, you aren’t just trash talking. Shit has really hit the fan. I haven’t played in almost a year so. Glad I got out when I did.
