Star Citizen’s Around the Verse covers Squadron 42, scanning mechanics, and the Aegis Eclipse

This week’s Star Citizen Around the Verse takes a quick detour into Squadron 42 development. CIG zips through weapon animations, ship AI progress, spacescaping, the Bengal carrier, NPC AI (this part is really nifty), and character art and costumes. As the studio points out, development on S42 usually carries over to Star Citizen itself – and that includes shipboard scanning and radar systems, the subject of the episode’s feature middle. You wanna know what you’re stealing, harvesting, or blowing up before you do it, right? Right. Finally, there’s a Ship Shape segment covering the development of the Aegis Eclipse and touching on the ship roadmap and new biweekly cadence.

Meanwhile, if you’re still reeling from last weekend’s news that the game now has a de facto $27,000 pledge tier concierge level, check out this official support doc, which breaks down all of the Chairman’s Club buy-ins publicly, from the folks who have PTU access for their package on up through the $1000 and $10,000 ranks.

Source: Official site. Thanks, DK!
Update: Oh, and it just wouldn’t be Friday without another ship sale, would it?

oh i just noticed. and it’s really on me for not communicating this to bree more effectively:

the 27k package and the concierge rewards are two different things.

concierge rewards is akin to a loyalty program in mmo’s like wildstar or lineage 2 where the more yoiu spend the more bonus shit you get.

the confusion i assume comes in that the top teir of the concierge rewards is 25k and the new whale package is only available to concierge members – you must spend $1kusd before you can even see the store page for it.

buying the package will put you over teh top teir reward for concierge rewards, but you don’t need this package to get it, and can get those rewards by spending 25k or w/e the teir is on w/e random assortment of cash shop shit you want.

the reason i thought it was interesting to tip about was that this information about how much each teir costs was not in prior emails about the program or the more visible pages

vs

All new concierge rewards, up to two free F8 Lightning Heavy Fighters from starcitizen

My dyslexia was playing up I misread that as scamming mechanics rather than “scanning mechanics” at first glance .

Going to the purchase page now returns a 404…I guess they sold out?!

404 in CIG coding means they sold 404 Legatus packages :)

Other option, you are not a Concierge and can’t access as this is restricted. I bet it is the later.

you have to have spent $1000usd already before you are welcome to buy the $27000 package

With such a budget and so many developers one would expect it to come out soonish.

Yet it seems the game still hasnt left its pre alpha state.

Its one thing to hope to create a game of the ages but so far its still needing years of development and cash might run out before they even get halfway there.

WTF is taking them so long to finish a space game with 300+ developers ?

How many years ago was Squadron 42 supposed to be released now?

i’m not really sure why they made such effort to obfuscate the concierge money spent amounts.

to be clear these monetary amounts spent for each teir is not communicated to us concierge members outside of this buried held desk page. i would not even have found it if CIG didn’t tweet their help desk towards newbs for some reason (i mean cash shop trouble shooting is front and center on the page so…)

the email and the prominent concierge pages do not feature this information. for w/e reason.

Deekay I agree this Concierge Levels and Rewards doc is not very visible but don’t get the point about a possible obfuscation.

While not being proficient in MMO’s cash features, I see that many companies don’t let the opportunity to players to see their total real $ spent. Even in game currency like Kakao cash, Gold to take two, do show only remaining amout of those currency, not the real $ cash over months or years.
Spend little but regularly, say once a month and don’t see the big picture.

One thing is to check financial levy of x times 5$ on our monthly bank account… another is to realize we spend hundreds if not thousands on skins, in game food or hats.

However each CIG Backer was always able to see the total of real cash spent in their Billing & Subscription menu.
They can also select one of the Pledge level title in the Profile Setting, from Scout up to their total pledge.
Also Hangar do list every single purchase with individual real cash value at time of purchase.

Pretty transparent about money spent.

they didn’t even say in the emails to us concierge what these money amounts are.

i also wasn’t talking about how much an individual has spent already but what the spending teirs for cocierge reward teirs.

also no one spends thousands on skins and “in game food” lmao.

Quote Dekkay :”also no one spends thousands on skins and “in game food” lmao.”
Indeed yes they do but not in one day… over a period of time, months or years. You would not, me neither but players are doing it.

Many will spend hundreds to thousands. That is fact. I do not drop numbers out of dice rool.
Fortnite made nearly $300 million in the month of April versus 3 million concurrent users and a base of 45 millions people who downloaded the game.

300M$ / 3M players on one month = 100$ per head.

Not all have bought skins, it is an average. All Fornite players have bought nothing, some 10’s, some hundreds up to thousands. In one month. How much are they going to spend in one year? Definitively some (TBD) thousands.

Without site clearly giving such number, I won’t believe it. Reality is that people are spending massive amount of $ per head… just for skins, much more than CIG Backers on average (300M$/month) vs (186M$/6 years).

played all day yesterday, much stability and not so glitchy as it was a month ago, I continue to see the core of a potentially fantastic game; beautiful, complex, fairly demanding

based on comments from the shows this week they are a loooooooong way from implementing many of the core systems for SC and SQ42, y’all might need more popcorn this is gonna take a while

it has been much better in 3.1 in general. i am very pleased with it.

it’s a positive direction amidst a crowd of other less positive things with this game.

like the now weekly sales events thing.

Not a bad episode. Scanning looks cool, and while I don’t really care about the Eclipse, I’m sure some folks will.

Star Citizen Outrage Madlibs!

Unbelieveable! I can’t believe that CIG is working on [______________] and selling another [______________] for thousands of dollars instead of focusing on [______________] like they said they would in update [______________]. Whatever happened to the [______________] feature that was supposed to be in [______________] and has now been put into a [______________] module? star citizen fanboy defence madlibs:

(just alot of gaslighting and attacking anyone in incoherent manner who questions the divinity of star citizen and it’s developers)

wow that was alot easier to make than yours looks. and i didn’t have to pretend or be disengenuous about the people i’m mocking with it either. wow!

i’m sure that selection of memes might even be relevant to some website out there. i mean it’s not really relevant to massively commenters but there might be a venue somewhere out there where those things make sense and people routinely say them but i can’t say i’ve come across it. but i also don’t spend all my waking hours stalking derek smart and his sicophants.

also the meme is “they seem to be more desperate for money than ever right now”, and i mean jumping their own shark with their concept sales reachign further than ever before does kind of reek of desperation for fresh cash doesn’t it? when you’re selling a microtrasaction ship for $100 off if only you use CASH only and you also get a free $100 tank that no one asked for.

but let’s act like it’s people pointing out the red flags and misbehaviour that are continually acting outraged in relation to this game.
