Grab Guild Wars 2’s expansions for 30% off this week – Bless refugees, they’re talkin’ to you

You might think that it’s a little weird to assume folks who bought Bless and refunded it have never tried Guild Wars 2, but that isn’t stopping the Guild Wars 2 community from trying to attract those fleeing what we’ve been calling the Bless Mess.

According to MMOBomb, which covered the hoopla earlier this week, the campaign is partly thanks to YouTuber TheLazyPeon, whose recent videos slam Bless and praise GW2. In fact, some Redditors are calling Bless Online the best marketing campaign Guild Wars 2 has had in a long time, which isn’t really a compliment to anyone, but we doubt Anet minds too much. Other players have set up camp at the newbie spawn to welcome new players.

We suspect the big sale might also have something to do with it; according to Dulfy, using the code WelcomeToGW2 through the official store will get you Path of Fire and Heart of Thorns for 30% off. In fact, if you use our affiliate link, we get a tiny commission if you buy something. If you’d prefer not to do that, here’s the link straight to Anet. Cheers!

If you’re coming back to the game, why not check out our own Flameseeker Chronicles column?

OK i tried GW2 got the raptor mount. But i’m just not feeling this mmo anymore. I don’t know what it is. The whole time i’m playing i’m thinking i don’t want to do this. Also with every main story quest combat fight i die in them because of some mob mechanic that kills me in two hits. I don’t remember the game being like that. Thankfully it only cost me 10 bucks to find out.

Weird, people are lambasting me below because of this exact issue. Even you commented on me not knowing what I’m talking about. The main story quests are def not easily soloable in any of the xpacs but go ahead and shout me down lol.

They definitely are if you understand your class strengths and weakness and basic game mechanics like evade, blocks, and general positioning.
Knowing your traits, skills, and weapons really helps too. When you are struggling with an enemy, you can switch traits and skills around or try different weapons for the fight. This is why it’s always always a good thing to have most of your class available weapons with you. Even if they’re not top tier quality, just having them can make your life easier in some situation.

Obviously if you are new to the game and just jump into HoT, you’ll have a hard time. You should go through the game progressively. Play season 2, When you’re comfortable with Silverwastes monsters, move to HoT or Season 3. Then move to PoF and Season 4.

I saw a GW2 player literally called Bless Refugee. Also there has been a pretty big influx of new players as Ive never seen so many veterans out running noobs through the content and just plain helping out. In short GW2 is great except for the gated abilities etc. Sure a few other gripes but nothing too bad.

I’ve figured it out: Guild Wars is best enjoyed when you flavor it with the salt from your previous MMO. Not for nothing that BDO stands for “Bitter Disappointment Online” to me.

Oooooooooooooookay, fighting back the NCSoft bile that’s doing its best to surge its way upwards into my throat, I actually bought these. Incidentally, MassivelyOP, I now officially own one loose thread dangling off the main mast of the massively yacht. Don’t yank on it too hard, as it’s attached to a veritable crapton of Amazon purchases I’ve made over the last couple years as well. :P

ArenaNet and Guild Wars series is a perfect example of a game I really don’t enjoy but I can respect how well they run things. I can definitely see why people like it, its just got quality features and design that really doesn’t draw me in.

I’m glad for the genuinely welcoming attitude going on with people checking out the game for the first time, though I don’t really identify with the somewhat rabid behavior going along with it. Some of it feels like people patting themselves on the back saying look how great they are for choosing the “right” MMO. That and all the schadenfreude over Bless’ misgivings. (I’d rather we have gotten another strong entry into the MMO library here in the West.)

Not a Bless refugee, but been waiting for the game to go on sale for a while and $21 bucks ain’t bad at all.

Now to figure out how to farm tons of hero points so I can unlock firebrand and hope the game stops kicking me out out half the time I see a loading screen.

Hero points are easier in the Path of Fire zones, for a varying definition of easier. There’s also a tour of the Heart of Thorns zones held every Friday at 8:30 Eastern that will pick up all the hero points there, you just need basic gliding.
