One Shots: The crane… the crane…

32

I love crane machines. Yes, I know they’re a total scam, but I won something in one once, and I can’t help but throwing money at them in the vain home of repeating that epic moment. Of course, I might forswear crane machines altogether if I got one of FFXIV’s creepier races as a prize.

Vincent has no such compunctions: “Only a Lalafell would look this happy being carried around by a Death Claw!”

It’s how all of us at Massively OP get to work every day, actually.

In space, no one can hear you scream. Unless they’re right next to you, I guess? Or if you send them a Facetime video. Or if they use their imagination. There are ways around that axiom, is all I’m saying.

Arkady has a better way, by taking all of us in his suped-up ride so that we’re screamin’ “OH YEAHHHHH!” as we boost across the universe. “Here is a shot from Elite: Dangerous,” he said. “More precisely from the basement of the galaxy. Was impressed that the game shows that — stars and even background tint on one side only.”

“I very recently starting playing Blade and Soul, so I have a nice screengrab of a cutscene in that game,” wrote Ryuen.

I have nothing profound or silly to say here. It is a very nice picture. It’s the sort of picture I could bring home and show to my mom and she wouldn’t criticize my choice in pictures.

Whenever the debate of “what’s the best type of MMO mount” comes up, there’s only one right answer that will silence and have everyone nod in agreement.

Hoverboards. Always hoverboards.

Thanks Vunak, for using WildStar to remind us of this fact!

Not everyone is responsible with mounts, however.

“My Jedi Shadow, Yolie, has always been adventurous in SWTOR,” said Rafael. “She has always been one to try things out well before others. But sometimes she does go a bit overboard. In the case below, she tried to prove her tank mount could go over anything — and I mean anything. Epic Fail.”

Now that summer’s here, it’s time to start thinking of vacations! Send us in a screenshot of a place in an MMO that would make for a truly epic or relaxing vacation.

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

It has been written that human vacation habits are a product of their evolutionary past. We prefer to go to the hot savannas and seashores that we came from.
So of course, other races have different preferences. The Norn for example. Even in a valley with plenty of green meadows, they have to throw their party at the snow line.

But for those traditional types that have to relax on the sands, be sure to wear the proper attire – pirate, of course.

And if you would like to visit a land different from yours then go to Ascalon – the land that was yours.

Vacation spots in MMOs? Ah well, there are many, I’m quite sure. But I did think of doing exactly that in the Saphire Basin zone in BnS. A nice bungalow and luau somewhere down there would not go amiss. A bit detached from the waterfalls though so the rushing water is pleasant and soothing and not deafening.

Whelp, after hearing the reference for all these years but never looking into the actual origin, I finally looked it up and watched that scene from the Fantasy Island intro. Justin got me curious.

I had barely any frame of reference this whole time, though I did imagine a man saying it on a tropical island so I was somewhat close.

Elke here has retired from the Vigil to take up a new career as a tour guide. Here she shows off the Ministry Chambers in Divinity’s Reach, where visitors can rest and relax while enjoy the free hot air from Kryta’s foremost deliberative body. If one would prefer cooler climes, she welcomes them to the Shiverpeaks instead. Mind the local wildlife, as well as the living ice creatures. The final stop is in the Crystal Desert of Elona, where one can find such amazing sights such as ghostly parapets in the nighttime sky.

Trips start at 100 gold, or ten kegs of ale. No checks, please.

Thanks for the spotlight this week, Justin. For this week, there is nothing more relaxing and inviting than a vacation to Costa del Sol. So relaxing, you don’t mind the passing sharks…

Nice! But… well, playing dead doesn’t work with sharks.

Let’s be honest, that’s a damn pretty planet that humanity screwed over. The overgrowth of the industrial sections are just great – just avoid the tentacles… Or don’t, I’m not your dad.

Posting this one just because I’m proud of it though it doesn’t fit the requested guidelines lol

Definitely don’t want to vacation here! The brochure for the destination was pretty glossy though… :(

Hmm. A Blackram Attack was on the itinerary that we received but we hardly got to see any of it as the tour around the village allowed no time for pictures. Next time we tour on our own!

BnS Producer: every MMO needs to have the standard set of crafting professions. Hey you, add tailoring!
BnS Developer: wait, what do “tail-ors” make? Tails I guess…

And now you know – the rest of the story.

Reader
Utakata

Unfortunately, I wish crafting was as robust in B&S as it is in WoW. And I could actually tailor cosmetic outfits that where an alternative to the ones behind the Cash Shop wall to put up on their Auction House. Alas, they went the opposite direction with that game. /sigh

…and getting back to the topic of conversation: Yes, my character has 9 tails. And I saw what you did there! o.O

My Lahn caught in a zen moment near the base of the waterfall across from the sorcerer training ground of Tarif, Mediah. A perfect place to holiday if you don’t mind magic being flung around!

Every time I see a great screenshot like this inner voice asks: “maybe we should try it again?”

And I answer firmly: “No, sera. Just no.”

I had a similar scenario this past weekend. There was a Tolkien exhibit in Oxford and after our visit, I was tempted to go back home and re-install LotRO. Thankfully, I came to my senses by the time I got back. :)

Reader
Rolan Storm

LotR is strong in The Force. *nod* *nod* :) Beautiful universe.

Somehow I lost tolerance to LotRO’s graphics. :\ No longer like. A bit puzzling to me since I easily tolerate SWG graphics when I play on SWGEmu.

This thing with compulsive game installation syndrome :D it is not really have any weight when you know what you do. I have two online games to play and ‘Vampyr’ demo is coming online in half an hour with release tomorrow. My gaming time is full.

Reader
Vincent Clark

I think it’s also the nostalgia factor. LotRO was my first MMORPG. Luckily, SSG/Turbine are there to remind me of all the reasons not to re-install. :)

Reader
Rolan Storm

AHAHAHA! That they did. :D
