Mechwarrior Online posts summer roadmap with new mechs and profile sharing

Mechwarrior Online is still plugging along as the original home for fans of MMORPG mech combat, and in fact this week Piranha Games – which is hiring, by the way – has popped up with some freshly planned events and a summer roadmap.

“we wanted to give you a sneak peek of Rubellite Oasis’s new capture points on Conquest,” the devs write. “These changes improve the map balance for the opening season of Competitive Play leading to the World Championships at Mech_Con. The long-awaited Flea finally jumps into MWO and is sure to infest the servers. We have several mechs receiving 3060 Weapon retrofits and Bolton support.”

Among the quality-of-life adjustments coming in June specifically is the new build profile saving and sharing feature, which allows players to save, load, export, and import builds to share between clients and the community. Check out the whole run-down on the official site, and then keep an eye out for MechCon later this coming fall.

I used to play this game a lot. I would describe it as a World of tanks with Mechs. It’s more in depth than world of tanks, because hey, it’s mechs, but that’s what it most closely reminds me of. But the only reason I left was that the controls never felt quite right to me. I even hooked up my flight stick for a while, which was total fun, but not a ton more effective. Also could be I just sucked at the game…

This title makes me sad and has made me sad since it’s initial release. It just lacks so much as to what it could have been. :/ It just has no depth, no real meaning and honestly pisses me off that it exists.

I’ve enjoyed the title (for what it does) since launch. I find great enjoyment tinkering about in the Mech Lab, and great tactical depth using loadouts to great effect on the various maps. I realise every battle is not epic, or even great…but enough surely are to keep me (and many others) coming back.

Perhaps too much yin, and not enough yang appropriate for your avatar in that salty comment, right? It is the weekend after all! :)

MWO barely qualifies as an MMO, but it is most certainly not an MMORPG. There is no avenue to story or roleplaying in this title.

Having said that. It has evolved over the years and it is one of my favorite games for quick matches. Only takes about 10 minutes to do a 12v12 quickplay. I can still spend a lot of time in the lab experimenting with builds, cause screw your meta.
