Destiny 2’s latest story trailer marks the saddest moment in the game so far

For a game that begins with the heroes running away with their tails tucked between their legs and a seemingly unstoppable villain parading into the solar system, you’d think that Destiny 2 would have already hit its quota of melancholy beats. Not so fast! Bungie came from the Joss Whedon school of story writing and knows that the best way to keep your fans involved is to torture their favorite characters.

We won’t spoil anything for this September’s Forsaken expansion, but let’s just say that you best be spending quality time with certain game NPCs before it arrives. It’s not like it’s a tightly held secret as the studio is all but shouting this big twist from the mountaintop, but we like to think that we have a bit more class than that.

If you don’t mind some slight spoilage, you can watch the story trailer after the break.

This could singlehandedly kill the dialogue in Destiny because lets face it Cayde (aka Nathan Fillion) has all the best lines :)

Knowing I’ll never play, or even try, this game – I am completely up for spoilers.

Lets kill off a ‘fan favorite’ character to up the stakes! And by fan favorite its really more like ‘one of the only characters anyone gives a crap about’ Maybe they should try creating new compelling and interesting characters so this wouldn’t leave such a massive void or to kill them off. Instead they kill off a character a large portion of the developers working on D2 didn’t even help create.

Seriously makes me wonder if the studio has a more money-grabbing FPS title otw and are trying to tank this franchise to migrate the customers.

Er, I think the saddest moment in Destiny 2 was when all the players realized how much worse it was than Destiny 1.

*ducks*

Forsaken does supposedly fix a lt of problems I had with D2 on release. The weapon restrictions to promote their ‘rock paper scissors’ strategy is being made much more lax.

I think I’m totally off the Destiny train now. The Forsaken changes look solid as hell and I’m sure the content will be good but…I just can’t muster any energy to care or get excited. Hopefully it’ll be as good as it seems for those sticking around and it makes the past year of nonsense worth it.

Im pretty much in the same boat.

And I dont care if they plan on bringing him back or not, the mere fact that they would play this card in order to make people notice the game, is a low blow.

Truly a sad moment, really.

I’m way off and back at the station. Now, what’s next?

Go play Warframe. Its the game the Destiny franchise kept trying to be and failing. Right down to the mentally unstable AI character. They ripped off Ordis HARD for Failsafe.

Yup. Warframe is high on my list.

Honestly, this is one comparison many people use, but i never got.
I do not really see parallels between those two games except that they both are sci-fi.
Maybe it is because i came to Destiny after playing Warframe, but for me it is much closer to games like Borderlands or Payday, than Warframe.

When it comes to the actual combat it can be quite different if only because of first person and third person. But when you look at all the ‘trappings’ they are extremely similar. Floating helper pet. Semi-psycho AI cracking jokes. Your own little ship that really doesn’t ‘do’ anything. Flying through the solar system with each place having a theme and enemy type as a result of both invaders and splinter groups. Good and evil AI factions. Quest assigning NPC talking in your ear during a mission. Some more i’m sure but I haven’t played either in a while.
