Fortnite on Nintendo Switch doesn’t include Save the World

You remember Save the World, right? The mode of Fortnite wherein you build a base and defend against zombies? The one that was supposed to be the entire focus of the game at one time? Because apparently it’s not in the latest port for the Nintendo Switch. The port only includes the battle royale portion of the game, and according to the developers there are no plans to change this.

So, you know, if you had been harboring any misapprehensions about the core focus of the game at this point, it may be time to let go of those illusions. It’s not a matter of the game just surprise-launching yesterday. In related news, the game reportedly has 125 million players, so it’s not hard to trace a line covering why the developers decided that porting the battle royale mode was the part that matters. Oh, well.

What a disappointment. Way to sellout Epic Games.

I was so close to backing this. I’m glad I didn’t because I don’t play battle royales. They should just refund everyone their money that funded the game. They have the money and it’d earn them a lot of points. We all know they don’t give a shit about it.

As someone who paid for save the world i’ve pretty much assumed they’ve given up on it ages ago. Its not the memegame of choice for kids and streamers and as such is probably not considered worth the time and resource investment to be worked on.

As someone who bought a founder pack and paid for “save the world”, I am utterly disappointed that they focus only on the BR part of the game.

I had no illusions though, quit that game 2 months after BR was released when it became obvious that they give a **** about the original “survival” part of the game.

As far as I’m concerned, Save The World is the offshoot and the Battle Royale is the main game.

Why are game companies adding competitive elements to MMOs is the more likely question.
None of them have ever gone anywhere else than the dumpster.

Also raises the question about gear progression and permanent worlds.
Because clearly, that is not what players are looking for.

excuse me for a second while I roll my eyes so hard that I tear an optic nerve …

“Save The World” is still in beta / early access / fuck you, we are not going to “release” it until our full game price “founder packs” stop selling & then it will be F2P.

Last time I checked, Nintendo ain’t down with shipping unfinished titles.

They will put up almost anything on their e-shop. Well on their way to becoming the next steam.

That’s really disappointing. I’m a fan of Save the World and it would have made a great Switch game. I would even have shelled out dough for it (again).

I still consider Fortnite Battle Royale the offshoot of Save the World. Being that Save the World is the original game that should be bought no matter how much success BR is giving it. Eventually Battle Royale games will die out like mobas and Fortnite’s original game will still be there.

Yea. Because MOBAs have died out. Yep. League, Dota 2, HotS, smite, all dead and gone.

Come on bro.

They definitely concentrated around a few titles, and even them are shrinking.
DOTA 2 is wayyy down, HotS was never even a contender and is slowly sinking like the dozens of others that didn’t have a massive IP and big money to keep them relevant.

The age of the MOBA has been over for years, they were replaced by card games, Hearthstone became uncontested leader, the rest pretty much died, even popular ones like GWENT are a shadow of their early selves.

And now, battle royales.
PUBG is down, Fortnite is up and they will stay as the winners until the rest bleed to death somewhere.

It is like this for ever genre though.

Shooters : Overwatch. CSGO, and whatever CoD / BF game is out at the time
MMOs : WoW, FFXIV, whatever korean MMOs are the fotm
Card Games : Hearthstone and well, hearthstone
ARPG : PoE, D3

Its not like any one genre has 1000000s of good games. There is room for 4-5 different games in each.

Its funny that you say Dota 2 is way down. I clicked on twitch and it has the most viewers right now, even with some obscure qualy going on lol.

Probably because at this point it would probably be easier to just release Save the World as a separate game.
