Players petition BioWare for a console port of SWTOR

Here’s the burning question of the hour: Would you like to see Star Wars: The Old Republic join its single-player predecessors on the console? Do you see this as improving the MMO’s long-term survivability and potentially growing its fanbase, or would it be too difficult, costly, and unnecessary?

There is a crowd of gamers out there who are clamoring for a SWTOR port, as evidenced by a new Change.org petition for BioWare to create one. “I understand that this game was created with only the PC in mind, but with how increasingly popular Star Wars is becoming, a console version would be a great idea,” the petition’s creator wrote. “Not everyone has access to a computer to play this amazing game on and I think more people should have access to it.”

Let’s turn it over to you and see what you think by voting in our poll below.

Seems a bit late in the game for this one. The engine they used does poorly with large numbers of players. That has left large scale raids and pvp content out of the mix. We aren’t getting regular story updates anymore. IMO its time for a new Star Wars MMO.

They could barely get their highly customised version of the HeroEngine running on the PC. I see zero chance of them porting it anywhere.

Don’t get me wrong. The level 0-60 content would definitely work well on almost any console.

I might even go so far as to suggest that if they were going to do THAT much work, that they remove the MMO components from the ported version completely and release it as a single player game. At least then they could charge (almost) full price for a (almost) complete game and make their money that way.

I know people have reservations about the number of keybinds. My experience is that the levelling (story) content only requires about 3 abilities at the best of times. A single player game could so easily remove all those filler abilities that just stroke certain player’s egos than can use them perfectly.

I would support this only if they remove it from PC. Then we can move on to a better star wars MMO.

The game engine is so rickety they can barely keep it functioning on PC. Every time they change something, 10 other things get messed up. These people are delusional if they think a console port is even feasible .

Wtf is wrong with them? Its a great mmo. why would they want to make it to another 3 keys action bullshit game?If they change it to make it a console game im not touching it again.

I seriously doubt many console gamers would appreciate all the F2P restrictions, not to mention that it’s kind of antiquated for a new gen port. Does it even have game pad support on the PC version?

SWTOR has more keybinds than WoW does these days after all the pruning. You would need combinations of 3 buttons on a controller to fit them all. Really the console version would have to be redesigned to be any fun.

I guess the extra controller options/ports will come into use now when players are lonely.

I think for every console exclusive out there someone should start a petition to bring the game to PC, then a few more petitions to port the game to every other conceivable consoles. It will work well, trust me.

There’s so many things I’d like Bioware to do that’s not porting SWTOR to console.
Number 1: Make a Bioware game, which they haven’t done since 2012.

Axetwin .

That’s because Bioware ceased to exist in 2012.

My first reaction upon seeing the headline was, “Console players do not have the patience to sit through hours of voiced dialogue and cutscenes.” But I could be completely wrong.

Now, if they wanted to spin off certain parts of the game, like the warzones or GSF to consoles, that might be a possibility.

yeah you’re wrong there considering games like the Last of Us and Drake Fortune and any game made By Kojima..also SWTOR was a console game first for years parts 1 and 2 plenty of dialog in those as well as Fallout and elder Scrolls.
