Star Trek Online brings out its next featured episode on June 28

The premise for the next featured episode in Star Trek Online is a real good news/bad news situation. The good news is that captains have just uncovered new information about the Hur’q from their homeworld and learned a lot about the Founders. Bad news? Well, the Hur’q have an enormous fleet ready to pound the absolute daylights out of the Founder homeworld and players need to do something to prevent that from happening. So the bad news seems more pertinent.

Sure, the Founders aren’t exactly friendly, but failing to stop the Hur’q now means that the Alpha Quadrant will be in danger, so it’s probably time to take part in the defense. The episode is going live on June 28th and will be a featured episode, available to players who have cleared the prior episode in the sequence. And if you want to shout that you still don’t like the Founders very much over the sound of phaser fire, that seems fair.

Will i like STO (and how much frustration will i get overall due to monetization) if i want to play it for the story, atmosphere and exploration of space? Overall i want singleplayer space game, but there is no singleplayer space games that focuses on story.
Is ‘singleplayer content’ in STO hidden behind paywalls/grindwalls or al this stuff is only in ‘endgame’?

And is story passable? Maybe even good? While most western MMORPGS currently have passable storylines and writing i still search for an one that is ‘good’ in this matter. ;)

I dont mind throwing 20-30USD on a game that i like if this matters.

STO’s story is solid, and gets better as you get to post-launch content (there was a lull of several years where the game was in maintenance mode before the developers argued for, and got, the money to make a free expansion that turned things around.)

I’ve not started Victory is Life yet, but did get around to visiting the new DS9 today. It does look nice and more like the series than the old DS9 station, and Quark’s bar is thankfully no longer a separate instance, but boy does it ever feel cramped, crowded, and claustrophobic. I was getting agoraphobia in there! lol

Yeah they got the look right but pandered to players complaining about scale. Notice how everyone was hyped for it and now no ones hangs out there.

If it is smaller that’s probably a good thing, within reason. Complaints about the interiors (particularly the various bridge sets) is an age old complaint.

The new interior literally uses the dimensions given in the hard copy blueprints for the sets used on the show. The promenade is just the station’s tourism and shopping deck, it’s supposed to feel small.

As the captain of the Defiant said in Agents of Yesterday, “doesn’t mean I have to like it!” lol

But seriously, I think it would maybe feel less cramped if they got rid of a few npc’s.

Oh, I’d agree with that. The number of NPCs were out of control until a patch last week. What you can see if you log on today is the improvement. The bank/auction house room had what looked like a mosh pit in the middle.

I mostly like STO, but yeah, I’ve been saying for a while now that it is starting to show its age and is definitely in need of an engine upgrade. I suspect, however, that the chances of that happening are slim and none.

IIRC, consoles are 2-3 months behind PC?
