H1Z1 roars past 10 million users on PlayStation 4

After it looked like H1Z1 was being rendered obsolete by last year’s rise of PUBG and Fortnite, having lost 90% of its playerbase by February of this year, the battle royale title is making a surprising comeback on both PC and console. In fact, Daybreak announced this week that H1Z1 has seen over 10 million PlayStation 4 users since the game went into open beta on the platform back in May.

Here’s another big number: 102 million hours, which is how much time PS4 players have put into the game so far. Daybreak is so pleased with the response that it is gifting current and former PS4 players with a free Darkfire pickup truck and Sunrise parachute.

H1Z1 wants to bring its Revive game update to the PS4 this week, which includes the titular mechanic, an airstrike carpet bomb throwable, and aim acceleration options. Some issues have arisen and the team said that it is working on them and hoping to get the patch out soon.

I think it’s nice to see Daybreak getting on the bandwagon because they were waiting to jump on it before it even started.

Success for Daybreak means more chance for a new Everquest in the future? Yes, please. I’m allowed to dream. I’m still mourning Everquest Next. (Johnny EQN I hardly knew ya.)

more chance for a new Everquest in the future?

IDK, It is good when any game company gets more money. OTOH, this is doing so much better than EverAnything, I can not see how DBG would ever invest resources in Ever* in lieu of H1Z1, If you could add a new engineer to H1Z1 or E*, why would you even briefly consider not choosing h1Z1?

It makes sense, PUBG being locked down on Xbox would leave those wanting on the PS4 starved.
That context combined with it being free is just a winning combo for H1Z1 on the platform.

Hopefully this is the boon Daybreak needs and that they can not only sustain it, but refrain from pulling a Daybreak and screwing it up somehow.

and MS is desperate to keep PUBG because it is had been the first true hit title of the system … there were even rumors that they wanted to buy out the game completely.

Gaming is complicated. OTOH, there are more than rumors that the [co-]owner of Fortnite wanted to buy all of and did buy part of PUBG.

Yeah … Tencent already had stock in Bluehole before PUBG & then wanted to buy them out completely after it got big: Bluehole said no & then like a month later Fortnight was a BR game / PUBG’s full Chinese release got put on hold by the Chinese government (previous to the refused buyout, PUBG was completely green lit).

… Inferr what you will of that.

I guess cross-platform play won’t be an issue here since H1Z1 has withered on the vine on its other supported platforms.
