World of Warcraft is banning ads on the Group Finder moving forward

I can stop any time I want.

Quick question: What is the Group Finder in World of Warcraft intended for? If you answered that it’s for finding groups, possibly with an incredulous expression that anyone would ask such an obvious question, congratulations! You are following along here. If, on the other hand, you answered “for advertising runs through content being sold for in-game gold,” then you are not following along, you have an odd definition of the words “group” and “finder,” and you are not going to be allowed to use the tool much longer because, as mentioned, that’s not what it’s for.

This doesn’t mean that people cannot offer to sell runs through content, of course; it just means that you will need to advertise it throug means other than the in-game group finder. Trade chat and such is still permitted. It just clogs up the group finder interface and is generally undesirable, so Blizzard is cracking down on the practice. Bad news for the people who sell though the interface, but good news for everyone who just wants to find a group.

Pay is 50 euro and you get all dat lootz moneh can buy.

You dont even have to be decent, just give cashz and we boost you to the highest itemlevels so you can show the community how awesome you are !!!

The sad part: People are actually so desperate to complete the content they will pay large amounts of in game cash to do so.

I can understand wanting to see content. However, buying people to run me through it, rather than facing up to the challenges involved, would just feel… wrong.

I bet you could omit “moving forward” from the title and it would make sense.

I can see the point if it was being done for real world transactions, but doing it for gold in the game has a kind of “Sword for Hire” vibe. Adds some depth if done the right way, maybe they could make a system for it to the bulletin board in town. Some good immersion there.

They arent banning the practice of selling runs. Just using the group finder to list them – which made it unusable for genuine group finding. They can use trade chat instead.

I don’t play WoW, but have seen ads list this in the GW2 dungeon group finder. It was always frustrating looking for the last dungeon I needed and hoping to score some skins, only to find ads selling the runs.

I applaud the devs for doing this and maybe it will catch on to other MMOs inflicted with this.

Yeah it was kind of annoying scrolling through them all to find a group that wasn’t a carry group for sale. Nice change, but I am sure players will find ways to circumvent it.

I love it. I don’t know why as it’s never really bothered me. But I love it! :)

Yes, hope it is enforced. Should be very helpful.
