World of Warcraft’s communities will bring players closer together than ever before (unless they’re in different factions)

The common consensus in the World of Warcraft community is that Patch 8.0 — the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch — is due to arrive next Tuesday. And speaking of community, one of the features that will arrive with that update is Blizzard’s own take on Discord.

The Communities tool will allow players to “create, manage, and join multiple groups of friends and family.” This feature works across realms and even Blizzard games, although apparently we’re still not allowed to talk across factions because reasons.

Blizzard notes that while players are encouraged to use the Communities tool for voice and text chat, the feature can also be used to pull quick join groups together among friends and like-minded souls.

Complete waste of time. Most people that play Blizzard games tend not to be very social people. Most social gamers left this company and it’s games behind years ago.

so basically, its like discord, except you cant talk across factions, making discord the better choice for that reason alone.

This is just silly. Discord works well, is widely used, not tied to just their games, and free. Especially with no cross faction support, this is dead on arrival. Dead.

Not if this is available in game which it seems like it might be. For me I only have one monitor at home, so I don’t use Discord text chat in game. If I’m in a guild and we’re doing content I’ll hop in VOIP but that’s it. Having an in game function to chat with communities is really helpful.

It will be available in game. It is less like Discord and more like a Linkshell.

Will full functionality be available via the in-game UI or will you have to tab out and access it via the battlenet launcher like you do now (for certain things)?

All in game.

Groups of family

Oh great, the worst idea to ever happen on social media, now in your MMO!

I’m dying insane to be farming mogs and my aunt sharing videos about how “Obummer” was a peon of the Illuminati

How am I going to move my shoddier goods, er, my high quality merchandise if I can’t speak to the alliance too? A goblin’s gotta have as many sales prospects as possible!

although apparently we’re still not allowed to talk across factions because reasons.

How do you mean “reasons”? Don’t you know they are the enemy, haven’t you gotten the memo on how we totally hate each other other than when we are commanded not to because… also reasons?

Come on, we’ve always been at war with eurasia…

Blizzard severely overestimates how many friends & family I have that plays the game…

That game over ——————————————————-> here, is a game I am not personally playing so I am going to passive aggressively point out how no one I know plays that game.

Not that I play WoW or any of Blizzards games much these days, I do actually have numerous family that play many of their games. Not that I’m ever visible if I am playing one of Blizzards games!

If I’m playing I don’t want to really chat with my children or other relatives! I keep invisible most of the time honestly. lol Needy ass kids, breaking my immersion and free time! Hrmph.
