WRUP: Introducing the Not-even-good-at-one-formers edition

What's that box

Introducing the hottest toy line to debut near SDCC (not at, we don’t have money for a booth there), it’s the Not-even-good-at-one-formers! They’re less, significantly less than meets the eye! Featuring the heroic No-knee-bots against the evil forces of the Separate-parts-bolted-together-icons!

Children and adults with the minds of particularly slow children will enjoy trying to make these toys change from their default form of A Dude With Vehicle Bits On Him to A Dude With Vehicle Bits On Him Lying On His Back And With An Unconvincing Mask On! Both forms are poorly painted and feature bad paint applications, shoddy stickers, and gimmicks that snap off in your hand!

Collect all of your favorite characters like Optional Pilsner, Bormblebrew, Sideswept, Mortgage-tron, Storescam, and The Tape Deck Dude! Let us know how you’re looking forward to it down in the comments, or just let us know What Are You Playing if you’d rather.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): No surprise on Pokemon Go, right? Unlike Articuno day, I actually get to do Zapdos day with my local group, so I’m looking forward to it. I’m also going to try to squeeze in some Splatoon 2 on the Octoling side (I haven’t unlocked mine yet, so I figured I’d side with the less delicious cephalopod). There’s another game I’ll be hitting up, but you’ll have to wait and hear about it next week!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): So this week I’ve gotten into a new-to-me Star Wars Galaxies emulator – this one’s Legends, an NGE emu, and it’s reaaaallly different from the regular pre-CU emu I’ve played so much in the past. I’m kinda liking it but finding starting out as a true newbie much harder than pre-CU, especially in a slim economy. Not sure how long I’ll stick with it, but I’m intrigued.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): After a surprise gift from a friend simply giving me a Nintendo Switch (not as a present for anything, just a random nice gift), I’ve been making my way through Octopath Traveler and enjoying it thoroughly. I will, however, take care of my usual tasks in Final Fantasy XIV and Granblue Fantasy, as well as cleaning up some pre-patch odds and ends in World of Warcraft.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): The new legacy loot mode for World of Warcraft has made running retro dungeons more beneficial for transmog hunting, although I may be spending some time working on a new Shammy. Other than that, I’d love to get some time in with Lord of the Rings Online and perhaps Star Trek Online.

It’s pretty much all Fortnite, all the time. And when I get bored of Fortnite, I log out and go play some Fortnite for a change of pace.

The PVE part is fun, but absolutely awful at actually explaining how things work, much like 97% of multiplayer games. So it’s frustrating having to keep Googling simple things that the game doesn’t teach you. And there’s a pretty obvious pay to advance grind waiting at later levels, but for now if I get 40 or so hours out of it I feel it’s worth the price. I’m enjoying it.

Battle Royale has become 30% pure joy, 70% despair. I love the simple “everyone starts at zero” element, and the goofy aesthetic: that’s a blast. However, there is such a huge gulf in the skill levels of the players that it often becomes difficult to enjoy it when at least half the time it (metaphorically) feels like a gorilla is sitting on your chest making you slap yourself. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to report a cheater in BR because half of the other players look like they’re cheating to me, if I use my skill level as a baseline for judgment. I’d really love to see them implement skill based matchmaking, but I’m not sure if the trade off in queue times would be worth it when, regardless of skill levels of the players, someone is going to be the first one knocked out in a minute or two of play time.

Thanks for the look at this game, Sray! I’ve been curious about it, and I appreciate your honest appraisal of how things are playing so far.

Be well, my friend,

This week: “A cat is penned up in a steel [box], along with the following device (which must be secured against direct interference by the cat): in a Geiger counter, there is a tiny bit of radioactive substance, so small, that perhaps in the course of the hour one of the atoms decays, but also, with equal probability, perhaps none; if it happens, the counter tube discharges and through a relay releases a hammer that shatters a small flask of hydrocyanic acid. If one has left this entire system to itself for an hour, one would say that the cat still lives if meanwhile no atom has decayed. The first atomic decay would have poisoned it. The psi-function of the entire system would express this by having in it the living and dead cat (pardon the expression) mixed or smeared out in equal parts.” – Erwin Schrödinger

Or tl, dr: Nyaan/nyaa. o.O

Also this week: Slowly unraveling what they did to my class and spec in WoWstar…which is becoming its own complicated thought experiment. And hopefully I’ll get to unravel in LynStay at some point as well. :(

Have a great week and weekend folks! <3

Warcraft. Hitting old raids for xmogs and wondering if any other company could get away with ripping all your power off you almost a whole month before the next xpac. Or even ripping all your power off you at all.

Elite. Flying my Krait II ‘Leaf on the Wind’, taking jobs off the Feds ironically. Looking for a NPC crewmember I can stand the face of but no luck so far – hoping for a Kaylee but quite frankly at this stage would settle for a Jayne.

Anyway, here I am, out in the black somewhere.

I love this pic and this post, Thirty. Thank you.

The name on the starship is perfect, and I totally hear you about the super-weird uncanny valley effect of the NPC portraits in Elite: Dangerous.

Everybody looks like they’ve been marinated in ugly-sauce for weeks on end. Uncanny valley? More like a pit! :-)

I mean, if you’re starting to find Jayne Cobb an acceptable crew choice, that indicates how desperate things have become!

Seriously, though, I dabble in E:D, and I have seen some non-monstrous NPC portraits, but they are rare-ish, and you really have to look for them. Happy hunting? :-)

Feel free to post more pics of your starship here, or in the One Shots column, as you prefer, in the future. I’m partial to the starship pr0n. :-)

Be well,

Cheers Secret. Yeah, the NPCs in Elite are quite something – which is odd, as the character creator is excellent, but it’s like all the NPCs looked at it and said “I’ll have the rectangular face option and the blonde pudding bowl haircut please.”

Never dabbled in One Shots but Elite does tend to be quite photogenic so perhaps I should take a look :)

The BfA patch dropped, so i resubbed to check out the changes, as well as to bring up some of my alts up to par as potential candidates for the new main. Silithus stuff so far is pretty weak, but i guess we’ll see where it leads to. If nothing else, i’m having fun with my arcane mage – the “new” spell visuals are really neat.

Other than that, i’m in a bit of a rut in terms of MMOs, so i’ve been playing some other genres instead. GTA 5 is pretty fun since i am yet to complete the storyline, and i’ve also downloaded a couple of trial versions (BF 1 and Ghost Recon: Wildlands). I really enjoyed Ghost Recon, but the constant disconnects (which are apparently fairly common) have completely turned me off from purchasing the game.

I am also testing out my new GoPro chinese knockoff camera on my bike helmet. After riding for 2 hrs i realized that my camera was pointing at the console instead of the road, so there’s that…

I wondered why I suddenly heard a cry of “D’OH!!!!!!!!” echoing in the distance the other day! Heh,

If you get some fun footage eventually, you can always post it here on Massively somewhere. We’ll all pretend that it’s from a motorcycle-sim racing game, if anyone asks. :-)

Going to poke around the Paragon chat thing tonight. Also, will likely log in to GW2 to check out what’s happening. Otherwise, we might get a table top session going tomorrow if the winds are in our favor. It has been a while and we want to pick up where we left off about two months ago!

still just getting the last we things done for BfA. mostly Paladin, Druid and Warlock to 110. Nice to have everyone i know excited for WoW for the first time in forever. They just had to go from ‘world ending grimdark big bad, no we mean it this time, 6th times the cham?’ to ‘hey asshole, wanna go on an adventure?’ again.
Though one criticism: war mode. It kind of sucks. The idea is sound. But why only let you turn it on in one location in the entire game? why phase you out of the normal gameworld? part of world pvp is seeing someone flagged and flagging yourself to attack or defend someone, not turning the world into a ghosttown with like 5% the population in it. So far the only pvp i have seen is that now the org to undercity zepellin no longer exists theres a portal to undercity for now and the alliance camp it and nuke all the lowbies as they port in. Thats it.
My initial opinion? let you toggle in any city. Don’t phase out just go blue name to green name like you used to and put those air drops in all areas not just new ones.

Beyond that Octopath Traveller remains the game FFXV should have been and if you liked FFV, Romancing Saga or Bravely Default and own a Switch its the must buy for 2018, if you can find a copy that is. Its sold out in most regions with multiple month long waiting lists for a second print run. Almost like people want jrpgs to be jrpgs and not shitty action games with one button combat. Imagine that?

-but when not playing both i’m working on some models as usual, this weekends project is the new leader for the Nighthaunt faction in Warhammer Age of Sigmar 2nd editions first new army, The Mortarch of Grief. A ghostly bride flanked by her skeletal bridesmaids, bound by the god of Death with a cursed vine of roses to rouse and command the armies of spirits raising all over the realms after a ‘necroquake’ made every spirit and entity including magic spells all become unable to die. Great sculpt but super fragile too.

I misread that. Nvm. But it was a popular one in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Man we need players! lol

Working further on my MCH in FFXIV (just hit 61 earlier today before work), planning to hop into Sea of Thieves by Monday to do the Mermaid Statue stuff to some degree, might poke around on WoW before the Burning of Teldrassil stuff goes live, aaaand not really sure what else. Might make some more progress in AC Unity as I slowly inch my way towards completing it so I can uninstall it and move onto Syndicate. Might also dink around in Realm Royale or The Culling or Dead By Daylight. Dunno really. Lots of options this “weekend” (which for me doesn’t really start til late Sunday night :x).

Tape Deck Dude is my favorite! I even traded Optional Pilsner for him. #noregrets

I’m still playing through Persona 5, though my progress has been slowed a bit by Octopath Traveler and FFXI. But I intend to at least get through another month in P5 this weekend. If the way I’ve planned my schedule works out, I should be able to get a lot done before it’s time to enter my next Palace.

I’m still going around and recruiting all the characters on Octopath. So far, it’s everything I wanted the game to be and more. It’s not perfect, but it’s still great, and it will keep me tied over while I wait for DQXI.

I barely did anything in FFXI this week except organize my inventories. I’m almost done, and then I guess um .. I’m not really sure what I’m going to do after that. Work more on CoP, maybe.

I also might give in and jump back into No Man’s Sky even though I wanted to wait until the Next update next week. I’m really excited for it.
