MapleStory 2 somehow ‘sells out’ of founder’s packs

On a unicorn.

Artificial scarcity or necessary action? Either way, fans are going to have a hard time securing a founder’s pack for Nexon’s upcoming MapleStory 2, as the studio announced that the packs have “sold out” for the rest of the Closed Beta 2 test.

Nexon only just started selling founder’s packs on July 17th, although it did say ahead of time that there would only be “an extremely limited amount” of these packs that also provided closed beta access. The founder’s packs ranged from $25 to $100 in cost and provided extras such as unicorn mounts, cosmetics, and a month of premium club membership.

The studio said that there is still hope for everyone who is dying to spend money on the game: “Those that have already purchased a founder’s pack will still be able to upgrade their packages, however we will not be accepting new purchases until a later date. Keep an eye on the MapleStory 2 website or social media feeds to learn more about when MapleStory 2 founder’s packs will become available again.”

I’m sure there’s a move novel approach to claim have “sold out” virtual licenses, when the goal is to capping concurrency.

Well…as long as the pigtail sliders in the CC are still intact upon release is all I really care at this point. <3

Maybe they are indeed doing it right.

I bought the basic pack and played a bit, only some lag during peak times.
Good fun, going to upgrade to legendary pack.

Update:

Just found out it region lock out practically entire Asia and I am moving to Singapore in couple of months. Contacted Nexon, they happy to refund.

How I hate region locking, maybe MOP can write an article discussing the merits (if any except $$$) for it.

I mean it’s smart on their part. Limit the amount of folks able to come in, make sure the servers can handle it before increasing it further.

finally company doing it right!
you cant sell more packs if the servers gonna fall. this was they control the close beta launch and not thinking only on “how much can we sell”

Well, I am sure they can still sell more founders packs even if the servers are on fire, but I am glad to hear they placing experience of those already on the servers higher than cash grabbing.

I’d like to imagine they’re trying to be responsible and not over sell copies of the game that their servers can’t manage. Selling 3 millions copy of the game when you know you can only support 2 million clients is just a recipe for disaster that we’ve seen play out time after time again.

In 2018 first impressions for games are huge. If the numbers for Bless Online show anything is you got one shot to make things come out right because people are incredibly unforgiving.

Server test numbers. That is all. Every developer wants to have a certain set number of people for tests like this. It should come as no surprise.

Now, if they were doing this for release, I would then be shocked.

I have read an article about the server pop to pack ratio too when the packs were released.

This used to be very common, even. It is a testament to greed that it has fallen out of favor.

It says on the page linked on the article that packs will go back on sale right after CB2 ends lol.

Reader

Yep, probably to a limited extent for CB3. And so on throughout CBT rounds.

That’s a trifle odd. I imagine they’ll re-open purchases when they go to open beta? Right now they want to limit strain on the servers, maybe, rather than test how much strain they can handle? Edit: I mean, when testing things, you want to limit your variables. Server strain is one such variable.
