Check out some of the new dwarven zones coming in Lord of the Rings Online’s Update 23

At GenCon earlier this month, Lord of the Rings Online studio Standing Stone dished on some of the goodies coming to the game in Update 23, dubbed the Grey Mountains update. As we discussed on the podcast, that means good stuff for fans of the dwarves – maybe even lady dorfs too, though that’s apparently still up in the air.

What’s definite, though, is the regions appearing (and reappearing) in the update, as LOTRO Players lays out in a trio of videos today. First up is a trip through the Grey Mountains – aka Ered Mithrin – themselves, encrusted with dwarven ruins, mines, and dragon bones but also a glacier biome and a unique forest too. The second video covers the Iron Hills, with more Easterling towns and functioning dwarven mines and fortresses, but YouTuber Andang notes that the zone is mostly empty right now. Finally, the Lonely Mountain of Erebor is getting some love!

We’re still running our regular LOTRO Legendarium column here at Massively OP; most recently, columnist Justin Olivetti pondered just how well the game is aging.

I still won’t play this game ’cause I can’t get that limited Rohirrim armor anymore.

I returned to lotro about 3 months ago but I’ve got to the point in lotro where I just am playing to see where the story goes . I’ve tried time and again to find a friendly social kinship but the the couple I have joined in that time were never very talkative and neither seem to use voice chat programs like discord . I mostly play on Evernight but I also have characters on Laurelin and Landroval .

I’ve tried contact kinships via their webpages for recruitment but not heard anything back ( to be fair I think many of them are long dead kins ) . When I have tried to ask in world chat if anyone is recruiting ( please note I don’t spam ) all I have ever got back is snarky comments . I’ve just come to the conclusion that what community feeling lotro used to have is pretty much gone these days . If I didn’t have a lifetime subscription I think I probably wouldn’t even be bothering with it at all now .

Shame really it used to be such a friendly game .

That update is the first thing in a long time to have me excited about Lotro.

Yeeeeaaaah! Dwarven paradise! Two iconic regions at once!

Interesting things:
1. New dwarves house now based on Western Slavic culture (!!!), look’s like Czech.
2. Zombie-dwarves
3. Working railroad system

Lord of the Rings is a good story, but I don’t think they represent it properly, I don’t think it’s worth the money they ask. They should make it completely F2P and award players money to play it.

And now they’ve taken the loot-boxes to an impossibly new low–instead of simply bartering for gear directly (with ash, etc.), you are bartering for loot-boxes that may or may not contain gear. /shrug.

any info when this will release?

No info yet. My best guess would be in about a month (pure speculation).

Thanks. Sounds very optimistic to me, though, considering they can’t yet say if female dwarfs will make it in and some zones are still empty. Let’s hope they have more content finished than what is currently on the test server.

The Ring is destroyed, but they haven’t done the Scouring of the Shire yet.

Are they trying to fill every corner of main continent or there are plans to go to far lands?

Reader

They are planning to go to Harad and beyond, yes, eventually.

Most probably they’ll go to far lands. Actually we already do this.
