EverQuest II is merging one of its progression servers into a regular server

At last, good stuff.
The residents of two of EverQuest II’s servers are about to get really chummy with each other.

Daybreak announced this week that on September 4th, it is going to merge the population of Stormhold with Antonia Bayle. This means that Antonia Bayle is going to see an influx of refugees while Stormhold will be shut down for good. This will be slightly tricky due to the fact that Stormhold was a time-locked expansion server, but that will come to an end as Antonia Bayle is a normal server ruleset.

There’s a lot of details that Daybreak covers concerning potential name conflicts and the transfer of mail and housing, so read up on the FAQ if this server merge affects you.

Does this mean that Stormhold caught up to Live? Or is it just prematurely ending the expansion rollouts?

Oh well. Back in the day, DBG wouldn’t merge the other RP server, Lucan D’Lere, into Antonia Bayle, because AB had too high population already. Wouldn’t offer free transfer to it either, until, dunno, months later. Now non-RP is merged into it.
I wonder why isn’t SH merged into the other TLE? I understand they’re not at the same expansion, but could get there.

Interesting, as the de facto RP server, isn’t Antonia Bayle already high population?

Some people have been complaining about low population on AB for a while now

Which is odd as up until last year, when i logged on, there were still people about. Even in the lowbie zones.

And they were role playing too.

AB’s population was ruined when they did the last big server merges. AB was once one of the top two servers population wise. Then they offered free transfers off the server to one of the new servers during the last merge. The population/economy is not what it used to be. This is still a point of contention for me as I loved AB’s high population and activity, and now it’s not good. I’ve built too many toons, houses, and my own personal guild so transferring is not an option. Just one of many marks against EQ2 in my book over the last few years….

Last time I logged on (albeit a fair while ago) it was now the third highest population server. The other merged megaservers took over in population and non-RP players from AB flocked there.

There is no such thing as “high population” in EQ2.
