New World teases us with video clips about nothing

61

Now that the cat is out of the bag and Amazon is promoting New World, there’s been a renewed interest in the community with this PvP sandbox. When will alpha happen? What will this game shape up to be? Will it become so hardcore PvP that only the most savage of wolves will partake in its offerings?

We’re going to have to wait a little while to find any answers to those questions, alas. Instead of feeding us delicious information, Amazon Game Studios is tweeting out tantalizing 30-second video clips of… relatively nothing.

The first clip shows a scene in nature where the wind is blowing through the grass and a bird flutters by, while the second gives us a far-away glimpse of a primitive player settlement. There’s not much to glean from these, but we may at least be consoled by the fact that Amazon is starting to hype this game in a real way.

I had no idea Drax the Destroyer was in this game.

To many people will avoid any game with full-loot pvp.
This would have been a smart thing to avoid.
It will hurt their sales.

Very pretty. I know this is an unpopular belief but these games attract very large audiences.
Look at BDO which, despite its pvp issues, is a great standard for games of this type.

I’ve got the feeling this is just going to be another Survival Sand-/Gankbox.

Reader
Bannex

That would be a huge waste of money and development if they went that route without offering a sizable pve experience.

They’d be idiots to ignore what is happening to sea of thieves

Reader
Slaasher

Agreed.
One of the reasons games like BDO are doing so well is that they have a HUGE PVE experience as well.
This game will have to do the same if it wants to make it I think

Except, Sea of thieves is one of many of the survival gank boxes out. There are many that actually did very well

Conan, Ark, and numerous others.

Sea of Thieves did awful because it was JUST a gank box. Thats it. No content, no survival, no building or crafting.

Regardless, I hope its a legit mmorpg. Something like a modern take on EQ, only set in a real life historical setting.

Conan and Ark can be played on private servers / solo, if you don’t want your fun spoiled by random murder-hobos yelling “i pk ur flax lololol.” That’s how everyone I know plays them (obviously, mileage varies).

I don’t think there’s an option for that announced for NW?

Not sure they would be happy with an Eve-Online size population.

Looks amazing but if it is only full loot pvp then it’s going to be a niche only crowd a bit like the darkfall lot with probably a very toxic community to boot, lot of money to blow to keep the few interested.

I’ll be sticking to wow classic methinks.

Videos remind me of those live, holographic pictures you use to see on people with bad taste kitchen walls.

Dont think a company like amazon is looking to make a niche game lol

Then they shouldn’t have made a full loot pvp game.
They wouldn’t be the 1st company to think that they could magically avoid the pitfalls of such a choice.

But yet, that’s what NW selling points will support.

Got a feeling in the back of one of my pigtails that Mr. Shclag used that before. But I think it was Star Citizen at the time that the well pointed spearing was directed at. O.o

Your pigtails are correct, Uta:) That particular gif was appropriated by a certain internet warlord for his blog as well;)

Did he politely ask if he could use it first?

No, but in his (line of) defense, I don’t recall asking Warner Bros. for their permission either;)

Reader

Fair point – but to me the difference is that it is clear you’re not trying to pass Warner Bros’ work off as your own, and that you’ve added something (artistic, intelligent and with comedic value) to what you’ve appropriated.

As for… ack, I’ll let Utakata sum up the rest of my thoughts in her comment below!

At thirtymil:

Putting aside the “gray area” legality of who owns what, it doesn’t make Mr. Smart any more noble for using it. Or Mr. Schlag any more ignoble that he used it. So the results are the same. That is, our simian editorial meme creator continues to delight us with his thought proving gif’s. While, the internet warmonger in question, continues down his one person crusade against what he perceives as injustices against him mostly in bad faith. /shrug

LOL! Yup. Perfectly illustrated.

Reader

Yeah…not much to go on indeed. Let alone being anything compelling. I mean it’s nice they can generate 30 sec clip to capture that from digital scratch without having a processor meltdown. But it’s all meaningless from there.

With no major new MMO releases in a very long time (CU, AoC, SC etc), it’s nearly impossible to get excited about games that may come 3-5 years from now.

Still not all to bumped about open pvp all loot stuff… game looks fancy tho

The fanciest gankbox to date.
