Crowfall peels apart the layers of the Ranger’s sound design

“Great sound designers are among the unsung heroes of game development. When their work is on point, it blends seamlessly into the game’s environment, hardly noticed specifically, but adding a depth of flavor that would be sorely missed if it wasn’t there.”

This. Exactly this.

It’s hard to overstate how important good sound design is in the overall package of MMOs and video games, and by all appearances, Crowfall is making a concerted effort to get this facet right. You can get a sense of it by reading this week’s dev blog which covers the work that’s going into this PvP MMO’s sound design.

The studio reports that each class its getting its own sound design pass, such as what you’ll see (and hear) with the Ranger class below.

Sound design is so important but indeed it seems to be ignored or taken for granted very often. Part of why I loved Super Strength in CoH was the thundering BOOMS it made when you hit an enemy. Also part of why I’m so ‘meh’ about CO, Might, which is basically super strength, just sounds boring and lifeless in comparison.
