Star Citizen highlights moonscapes and player housing, plus its monthly studio report

You know one of my favorite things about Firefly? The bunkrooms. Like seriously, I want a hammock and a pull out toilet/sink. That set designer deserved a medal for making a cold, dirty, clunker of a spaceship look like home.

And that’s exactly the image conjured up in this week’s episode of Star Citizen’s Around the Verse; the first developer blurb of the episode covers player habs – player housing – and while it’s focused on lighting, the watcher is getting a great look at the gritty living quarters, complete with graffiti and torn posters. The episode also covers development of moons (all those gorgeous ice world stills are of a moon, in fact), cargo movement, and ship art.

Meanwhile, Cloud Imperium’s posted its monthly studio report, an offering that apparently pleased Reddit; it recaps ongoing work on character art and animation, voice chat, mission text and dialogue, object container streaming, alpha 3.3 vehicles, grouping mechanics, ship rentals, space landscaping, shaders, AI and level design.

I’m waiting for the day when they say how they are focusing on making the game “fun”.

Um, okay, I watched all episodes of FIREFLY that aired, got the dvd of the unaired episodes, saw movie, SERENITY and even wrote multiple fanfic of how to do a sequel movie SERENITY: THE SEARCH FOR REAVER-WASH (about how the reaver spear infected Wash, making him a hybrid reaver / human, struggling for control while everyone else think the reavers ate his body, until one day the Ex-Operative returns with a video showing Wash is alive and revealing his name, “Daniel … Book”, yeah, son of Derrial Book, better known as the Shepherd, now the crew of the Serenity must team up with their most-hated enemy to find their beloved friend–before it’s too late for him).

But even I didn’t know they used their sink for a toilet or their toilet for a sink. EEWW! TMI!

“The bunkrooms. Like seriously, I want a hammock and a pull out toilet/sink.”

Then become a crew member on a yacht.

But that would deny the Firefly experience when he says, “I’ll be in my bunk.”

Having been a crew member on a yacht before – that is pretty much what we said.

The image popped into my head, and I couldn’t resist…

i quite like this 10 minute setup, quick and easy , i did miss the 40 minute versions at first but i just cant be bothered to watch it for that long.

hmm server meshing completely gone out the roadmap, which im not surprised about, other developers have worked on that type of system for years upon years like spatialOS and dual universe, id give that another 1-2 years to be put in realistically. although seems like that type of system for crackdown 3 has been scrapped from its multiplayer

rumours have been going around they only reduced the time on these without changing production to put more “value” into the virtual tickets.

that being said, that backlash is ofc mostly neutered again lol

Reader

Not a rumor. Chris said as much that some of the news was being held back for CitizenCon.

as for server meshing if it’s not in 3.3 and they put in hurston pvp is going to get even more non existent outside of fools who don’t do beacon missions in ships like the reliant>

server meshing was slated for 3.4, then got moved to 3.6 alongside gas cloud tech but seems like meshing is gone off the current roadmap and gas cloud tech moved up to 3.4, the server meshing isnt that big of a deal cus it originally was never going to have it, i think the physics refactor to let it run over as many cores as possible will give the next big jump especially server side and should help out our computers to. apparently its limited to running on 4 cores even if the server has say 18 core cpus. might not see that for a couple of big patches though

they talked about it in clumsy ways going back to 2013

There are two explanations for the shortened Around The Verse episodes:

1) The longer versions aren’t watched as much, or watched to completion, or skipped to the “good stuff”, the animation. Meanwhile youtubers like Bored Gamer UK, The Noobifier and Super Mac Brother had been routinely releasing shorter videos summarizing the long ATVs. So CIG wanted to get in on that and just make the shorter versions themselves and also save time on devs being taking from making the game to talking about the game.

2) Some of the content that would have aired in Around The Verse was being saved to be presented in highly polished format at the upcoming CitizenCon. Like last year’s CitizenCon, the side panels (that, aside from the keynote address and the closing remarks showing their planned Roadmap of the future, although plans are subject to change), talking about developments in the game looked and sounded like traditional Around The Verse segments. (Also part of the reason for last week’s backlash, the fear / anger over being charged to see something CIG usually publishes for free. That and their poor communication that even their original plans were subscribers would be able to see everything for free.)

the backlash was mainly over not being “first” to watch it, it all would have been on youtube for free anyway within a few days. now theyve cut back on the teams that will likely go from days to a week or 2 now for everything to be put on youtube and i guarantee people will moan about that now to.

Star Citizen does lived-in environments really well. Places like Levski, Grimhex, and the various outposts look fantastic.

Outdoors look great too. This is planet Hurston

idk why he does this. what’s in there now would fit the question fine enough without the unecessary throwing in new stuff that isn’t in game yet.

and on top of it it’s just some generic hi rez alien landscape like you can’t find hundreds of such images on tumblr with a click or two. who even cares?

let’s show the interesting things in game now.

no the worst part is that he thinks generic pcg’ed in veggie assets are a big sell. come on, that screen shot could be any number of steam asset swap scam ware games.

Reader
Oleg Chebeneev

I dunno wtf you mean by “generic” but this is procedurally generated landscape on massive planetary scale that looks very realistic. And thats quite an achievement and a sell for me.

Also I never said its in game but whats the point even arguing about it when screenshot obviously based on inhouse build and planet will go live in a month or so.

you just posted some gernic ass pocg screenshot. it might be from sc, it might be from tumblr for all it’s worth.

you could post your own screenshots from in game that would be legitimately compelling you know.

but that would require you take time from those video shit posts to actually play the game.

i mean that’s been possible since the 80s but gz?

why would you even post it in the context of the OP if it’s an in house build and not publicly available.

it’s not in game yet. yet another missed opportunity by oleg.

here’s one from last week. it’s not a great internal environment shot but you can see enough of that in the raw stream archives if needed. this is just a nice one of those “omg i’m inside and out side there is my big ass ship” shots i love doing becuase internally 13 year old me loves it.

edit: i want to add if you do take the time to find w/e video this is from, it’s anice set u with a three wing base that had unique stuff in each room as well as agriculture outside. was pretty neat.

And despite some saying it is some generic scene that could been taken from any game… it is not. it is from SC not another game or PG generated dedicated software to create nice looking wallpaper :)

Is it in game yet? No because it is planed for 3.3 (if everything goes as expected). Beside that I know no released and playable game with landscape that gorgeous covering a moon/planet surface.

Still as DK said, taking our self a screenshot from our own video is depicting even more the work done by CIG. As soon more people start to play/test the game (because more gameplay added and performance), everyone will be able to add its own gorgeous picture.

That is the beauty of this project indeed.

It’s almost as if you’re trying to convince yourself of all this BS.

Reader
Joe Blobers

I won’t be an early backer which then switched as a subscriber since 4 years if I was not convinced :)

The more patch we get and the more we see new Backers convinced to join as well. Don’t if you can’t handle Alpha and prefer to wait for Beta or even release.

Yes, those Daymar Rally races look really good.

I get the one with the dune buggy, the 6×6, even the hover bikes and golf carts, but the one that cracked me up and was totally unexpected was the foot race! Genius! Hilariously genius!
