Make My MMO: Crowdfunding for Shroud of the Avatar’s comic and an injured dev (September 8, 2018)

All according to keikaku or something

This week week in MMO crowdfunding, it’s a minor miracle that anybody is paying any attention to Kickstarted games, what with all the mega stories in the genre right now, but that doesn’t mean nothing happened. Ashes of Creation’s alpha one stress test kicked off, Chronicles of Elyria’s latest event contributed to Doctors Without Borders, Codename Reality’s Kickstarter failed to fund, Ship of Heroes showed off NPC and car population AI, Star Citizen teased moonscapes and delivered its monthly report, Grim Dawn previewed its next big thing, and another Elite Dangerous event went off the rails – or in this case, clung too tightly to its rails.

Notably, over in the Shroud of the Avatar, there are two campaigns running: One, for the comic, is already successful with several weeks yet to go. The second is actually for a person rather than a thing: It’s a GoFundMe for a former Portalarium dev who broke a bunch of ribs in a nasty fall. The community is helping him get back on his feet, literally.

Read on for more on what’s been up with MMO crowdfunding over the last couple of weeks and our roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’re following.

This crowdfunding has really gotten out of hand. New executive toilet? Kickstart it!

I guess I’m an ancient ogre from another generation because I can’t find the faintest reason that I would donate money to pay the medical bills of what’s basically a normal person who has a full time likely-decently-paid job.

In fact, I find the idea actually rather insane.

It makes me goddamned angry. An idiot falls and has a minor injury and then begs everyone else to pay for because the lazy piece of shit didn’t get insurance.

Ask mommy for the money (which he probably already has) for your dumbass mistakes.

Between insurance companies. Give me a fucking break. Same as saying I’m between jobs because I don’t want to work.

Actually he was laid off in the recent layoffs…

What makes me goddam angry is people like you who get goddam angry at people who need medical help which should be a human right and not a privilege for those that can afford it .

And the whole tone of your comment makes me think you probably are a bit of a sociopath who doesn’t have an ounce of human compassion and that you certainly are someone that needs to grow up a bit .

Seriously get a life mate .

Nine broken ribs, you call it a minor injury.

Person got laid off after 7 years, you call him a lazy piece of shit.

I think you have problems.

Back in the really ancient times, the times before Ogre’s, people helped each other out.
