Betawatch: Star Citizen wants you to mine rocks and buy another concept ship

31
It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of of theoretical games.

What do you know, there’s another concept ship for sale over in Star Citizen. And it’s relentlessly specialized in one specific field, making it the Spatula City of concept ships. (“We sell spatulas… and that’s all!”) You can also read about recreating Earth and digging on space rocks, so those won’t require any additional money.

In other beta news…

But even though lots of things are changing or updating or not looking the same, we still have a list down below of games in testing. That list could always have something on it that shouldn’t be, of course, so do let us know if that’s the case down in the comments. Really, we appreciate it.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

AdventureQuest 3D: Open beta
Arcfall: Pre-alpha
Ashes of Creation: Alpha one stress test ongoing, full alpha one in September

SC is better than our soap-operas here in Brazil.

Always remember that this game started life with a concrete set of features, a budget in mind to build those, and it had a release date for when they’d be finished.

It now has no set feature list, no set budget and no release date.

Reader
Joe Blobers

To be precise Sean:

-1- Kickstarter goals and strech goals are clearly defined.

-2- If you followed the scope change mid-2014 approved by Backers, project scope is driven by funds which mean budget is driven by rules of business (expenses forecast versus pledges forecast)… I.E. CIG have to deliver two finished products, Squadron 42 then Star Citizen. Now unless you are with the remaining small scam troll group, you perfectly know a project can’t be in Alpha forever… because the rules of business.

-3- No release date yet for both…. yet. Did they stopped to release patch with point 1 contents? Did the roadmap giving visibility till Q2 2019 don’t provide hint about possible Beta for SC by end of 2019?
CIG said SQ42 roadmap will be provided in 2018. Let see what we got. 3 months to go.

Is this ship included in the $27,000 ship pack?

I currently have a guy working for me whos friend he went to Uni with is now a developer at CIG in Manchester and he’s says they is no chance this game will release in its current scope and feature creep is a big issue, he also says the management is like a headless chicken and nothing ever gets finished before they are moved on to another project. Also says Erin Roberts will have them keep going back and re-doing the graphics tech which causes a lot of lost development time, as he wants it cutting edge and pretty all the time.

Reader
Joe Blobers

Yeah we know this guy who have a friend who know the cousin of a guy working close to CIG office…. He left a review on Glassdoor saying CR request that new employee carry him on their back between two meeting locations :)

About the so called never ever get finished we really don’t get what the patch numbering means: 3.3 in few weeks and Star Citizen Roadmap showing another 4 quarters of new gameplay and strech goals promised during Kickstarter.

Do you mean 3.3 = 1.0 or did they managed to add more since 1.0?

I don’t have any friends at CIG myself but there have been reports ( even the one by the BBC’s Click program ) that backs up your friends ( if he exists of course ) claims .

Some folks have so much invested (monetarily or mentally) that they have to dismiss this out of hand.

At the time of the Kickstarter, I asked my ex-Origin friends (ten in number) about Roberts, and their reports were not good. I was on record then that unless Roberts had matured, and was no longer so disorganized, that Star Citizen would not be delivered as described, and wouldn’t be delivered on time.

So far, 2-0 on that for me.

The only person I know who worked at CIG quit fairly shortly after starting, with the remarks, ‘Not a fun place to work.’ Your report resembles the reports I got about Roberts’ Origin projects. Except today there’s not an iron fisted CFO to rein in the excess.

Joe Blobers

Tee… I said a year ago that 3.0 would be the nail in the coffin of nay-sayers and haters.
Confirmed every day. CIG do have a robust roadmap because their production pipelines are uptodate together with well sized talented team.

Jpges, vaporware disappear from comments. We still have a few scam here and there shooted by some old time haters, despite being the worst scam ever… some even lowest geared troll (yes it is possible) are shooting Ponzi scheme :)

It is always nice to got some refresh about old meme. The ones about Glassdoor “testimony from ex-employees” or “I know a friend who knows… “are the best by far.

Keep coming. This is entertaining :)

Derek Smart changed his name to Tee Parsley?

Reader

Yes Rhime, the only person in the world who could dislike Star Citizen’s development is Derek Smart.

We are all Derek Smart (except the ones who are goons).

It’s not vitriol, it’s scorn.
Scorn for a company that has raked in hundreds of millions of dollars, reveled in its conspicuous consumption & nepotism, and still has the balls to beg for people to pay astonishing amounts of money for not just virtual digital shit, but imaginary virtual digital shit for a game that doesn’t even exist, based on promises that it’s “just around the corner” that we’ve heard for a half decade.
We mock people that shave their heads and join cults because it seems ridiculous, just like we mock people that continue to play the “pay for Chris Roberts’ lifestyle no questions asked” game.

Reader
Joe Blobers

Not even close of conspicuous consumption & nepotism. Nobody beg except in your head.
Nothing to buy beside starter package at 45$… and Backers like any citizens do spend their cash how they want, like football supporter paying a seat hundreds or thousands for a couple hours.

Where is the cult? … and best… CR lifestyle and his infamous island and resort in Pacific bought with Backers money? Star Citizen is a project… but trolling can be a cult :)

Reader
Roger Melly

Like most cult members Joe you won’t realize you are in a cult until you are out of it .

I wonder what it will take to deprogram you .

I want to know how much he gets paid for defending SC. Never posts on anything else on the site, turns up like clockwork any time there’s an SC article.

Announced 2012, 2014 expected release date. 2018, expected release…? I use SC as a cautionary tale in my project management classes :)

Reader
Bruno Brito

If he’s a developer, Lethality will come to protect him.

Oh, how i love MOP.

Reader
Joe Blobers

So Sleepy someone is wrong or right (or get paid… this is my preferred one) based on the fact you see his name on specific articles?

Time to refactor your perception of human behavior :)

But I agree on one point. SC comments section could be used to demonstrate how some individual with low to no minimum knowledge in math, business and game development at large, can use those sections to “blow off steam” and handle their frustration :)

Reader
Joe Blobers

… Except Roger Melly I never swallowed any cult, religion included. I drive my choice IRL by thinking not twice but several times.
Do you realize that “… you won’t realize you are in a cult until you are out of it” apply to you as well? :)

Reader
Roger Melly

I think you find it doesn’t because unlike you I am not so invested in a game that is still in development that I spend half my time coming into forums to defend the dodgy practices of the company behind it .

You don’t see Star Citizen for what it is because you have brainwashed yourself into believing the hype of CIG and you don’t scrutinize much of what is going on behind the scenes .

There have been reports leaking from behind the scenes that the development of this game is unfocused and in chaos but you won’t even give a moment credence to them . Deadline after deadline has been missed but it’s all fine and dandy in the mind of Joe Blobbers .

I would love to know where you stand on Chris Roberts infamous ” you win by having fun” comment when he was asked about people’s concerns about pay to win ?

I’ve tried the free fly weekends and I appreciate the game is still in alpha but it should be in a far more advanced state given the time its been in development now .

They can’t even get the single player game finished how on earth are they going to ever finish an mmo . CIG must be going through peoples invested money like it was water . I wonder how long that can continue , even 150+ million is finite . I think we are going to end up the point in the next few years where they will go bankrupt and if another company doesn’t come into finish the game then it may never get completed .

For the record I don’t want the game to fail because if they can pull off what they promise it would be a game I would love to play but practices such as turning out concept ship after concept ship in and attempt to get gullible people to part with yet more money ( when they already have invested in the game ) seems very greedy and shady to me .

Reader
Joe Blobers

Quote: “because you have brainwashed yourself into believing the hype of CIG and you don’t scrutinize much of what is going on behind the scenes ”

The good old Roger and his “IF” was not enough. Now we got “behind the scenes” records… :)
Well records is a bit a too nice… we mean the infamous anon source that gave already precise date of collapse 4 years ago and said that space to planet was decade away :)
And since a couple of articles: “my friend know a friend who knows…” … you must really be desperate to rely on such super old meme :)

You have no clue about business and game development and the brainwash are those refusing to see that roadmap do provide clear vision of most gameplay and features delivered by end of 2019.

Correct. +150M$ is not finite… heading gently but surely to 200M$, which is in line with what cost to start from scratch and build quality versus crap. And expect even more as many on the fence, waiting for more gameplay, more stable performance or just… female character, will keep providing more pledges during 2019, at every single patch.

You say you do not want it to fail but are the first to copy/paste the worst meme around. No project need support like yours Roger. Stay on your seat of “honest dissenter”, it is more appropriate based on yours records :)

And remember. No need to spend more than a starter package at 45$… unless you are one of those guys thinking he can do what he want with his cash, deciding that a 200$ ship he will use endlessly in Alpha/Beta then release is as good or better spent than a football seat for 2 hours looking at guys running after a ball.

Can I buy the concept ship with rocks?

Reader
Roger Melly

I am not sure if GIG would accept you handing over investments you make into gold on the stock market to Chris Roberts but I am sure if there is enough of them he probably would be interested .

He likes taking peoples money so I am sure he would take people gold stocks as well .

Star Citizen rolls out the Mercury Star Runner concept ship during Gamescom, something like 3 weeks ago. This is now the standard Q&A communication like for all concept ship.
