Fallen Earth is planning on a fresh start server for the future

The long road to revamp and repackage Fallen Earth stretches ahead of new owner Little Orbit, but to the company’s credit, it’s making efforts to whip the post-apocalyptic MMORPG into shape. Part of that effort is in raising the level of communication with the players, and a recent hour-long developer Q&A session certainly helped to accomplish this.

The primary focus right now is to bring the code and software up to spec. “We are not trying to change the mechanics,” the devs said. “This first wave of development is literally just taking the game we love and bringing it up to current standards.”

Players should be aware that Little Orbit is planning on a fresh start server when the game does get back into shape. Progression and premium items will carry over to this server, but otherwise it will be a full wipe of the economy and other items (players will have the option to continue playing on the old shard if they want to, however).

Other topics dicussed included a small anniversary event for the game, the return of monthly subscription rewards, unbanning players who didn’t deserve it, and “making [Fallen Earth] viable again.”

Excellent, I was thinking about FE just this morning. Never really got far into the second zone so still lots to explore.

As an old beta and launch player a couple things I would request they address:

1. The tutorial
Every good author/play write will tell you you have 15 pages or 15 minutes to grab the audience. In today’s genre that equates to the tutorial. The initial launch tutorial was fantastic. It was dark and mysterious; it tossed you right into the story, made you feel part of the world and an immediate sense of involvement in the plot.

The revamped tutorial was really poor I am sorry to say. It felt like a tutorial. It was more fixated on teaching you game mechanics then any interest in getting you invested in the game you just bought and was just bad writing. Bring back the original tutorial and add a few minor clarifications if needed on how to do something but bring the story telling back.

2. The Economy
Any time consumers can become completely self sufficient the free market will collapse. Allowing players to make characters that can be phd. chemist, armorsmith, engineer, tailor, weaponsmith, iron chefs all in one you have just killed the free market. Imagine the world right now if every one of us could make at home all of our clothes, food, gasoline, cars, electricity, etc. That is the cancer that too many MMOs die to when they try and appease players that ‘want to be and do everything’ and will scream if you don’t give it to them. Limit crafting to a small specialization and your market will flourish.

I really liked FE. Bought if for a few people at launch. It just really missed a few marks early on and I hope they have the opportunity to give it new life. I always felt it could have been up there with the original SWG.

I liked FE when I was playing at launch. Sort of wound down for me and I cannot remember why. Looked into going back after the company switch, but the whole F2P, Cash Shop, Sub model just looked to bizarre to me.

I would be interested in playing again, but they would really need to clean up that monetization model, modernize the infrastructure, and spruce up the content. Without that, just cannot see going back in.

I’m glad they’re fixing up Fallen Earth, and I may check it out once the changes are complete. However, they shouldn’t call it a Fresh Start server if progression from current players is going to carry over.

The term is misleading here; it implies that everyone is starting from scratch. That’s what Fresh Start usually means in MMORPGs, anyway.

I don’t think they’ll keep progression. They’ll keep the cash shop items. I would say, cosmetics and some QoL stuff? But they’ll wipe people, and make them restart on those servers.

Actually that sounds awesome – I’ll be on the fresh start for sure.

Good luck trying to reboot the game.

Considering how many “lacking” MMOs have flooded the market in the past few years combined with the niche fanbase that it did have, it might actually do well for the game.

I hope so. Too many MMO closures in recent times.

Hardly. The moment people realize that all your cashshop crap stays, but you have a equal footing, people will jump in to experience the game again: This time with less lag, less clunky interface, a better graphical experience, etc etc.

FE is a great game with a shitload of hiccups. Working on these hiccups will make it a great game, period.

Beautiful. I respect Nysek a lot, despite some of his flaws. His knowledge of the game is unparalled. He was literally strides above the knowledge held even by the GMs.

I think FE has some issues with PvE considering the game was made for Faction PvP. Só i honestly think it would be better if the game were more like a GW1, except not instanced.

3 Faction seems the best. Vistas and Chotas could be mixed. Enfos and Lightbearers, Techs and Travelers. Three faction fights can be more balanced than 2, or more.

I also think the level cap of the game is a bit too far, making the early game irrelevant. Honestly, i would cap the leveling or even take it off, and make your power progression be AP focused.

I don’t know FE deeply tho, i just like playing it, so it’s complicated for me to say how to change it.

About the wipe:

Look, grow up. I get that people don’t want the game to be wiped, but FE is PLAGUED by a shitload of problems. The game has a huge ammount of hacky workarounds, dupes and such. People hoarded this shit and screwed the game, and now that LO has to make it profitable, they WILL need to make this clean. So new servers is a great answer, with anticheat, and protection/bug fixes.

A fresh start where you keep your cash shop purchases, cosmetic progression rewards (I think that’s what they mean), and your name would be absolutely perfect in any MMO. They’re missing the name part, but I think the first two is enough to keep nearly everyone happy. Are that many people really complaining?

Reader

Yes. It’s hard to say which one of those duped, and which didn’t. What i know is: The economy is in shambles because of it, and the game really need to get it back on it’s feet. I’m all for a fresh restart.

Another thing we need, is a fix for two specific huge issues in FE: Women toons having smaller hitbox ( better for pvp ), and 800×600 changing some stuff that allow you to exploit hitboxes.

I’m not joking, this game is a mess, and needs help from the ground up. But the game itself is really really good.

Probably for the best, if not straight-up necessary, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this basically killed off the remaining playerbase for the game.
