Have you ever watched a MUD? Have you ever played one? Massively OP’s MJ can say no to both! How can that be? Today she’s fixing that by delving into her very first MUD experience at the request of a patron! A fan of roleplay and tabletop games, she thinks this will be quite interesting, and we have our Patron Avaera to thank for requesting it! Tune in live at 10:00 p.m. to watch this brand-new-to-her adventure unfold. Want to request a stream yourself? Check out our Patreon to do just that.

What: Lusternia
Who: MJ Guthrie
When: 10:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 21st, 2018

Would a game like this still be considered a MUD if they added art to the game? Like a portrait for your character, landscapes, monster, npcs and the like.

That’s an excellent question! I’m remembering like the Gemstone games, which always seem like the perfect “missing link” between pure MUDs and something like Meridian. Does it need to be moving visuals to count?

First thing, i was surprised how graphical it was. I thought it would be much like in Secret World when you have to play “The Game V1/2”.

Overall i can see why they are popular, very immersive, but only MJ can make a text based game that entertaining.

Lusternia was my favorite of all the IRE muds – or any MUDs really. I think i played for about 3 years before adulting took all my free time away.

Ive played Lusternia quite alot, one of my favourite MUDs. I love its world, depth and complexquests, but hate its combat system.

Played a ton of MUDs back in the early 90s. Thanks for bringing back memories!

Thanks MJ! That brought back so many memories of my first time logging into a MUD (sans a lot of swearing and typing what I thought was the right command repeatedly).

And it only takes a few years to forget just how much reading is involved in some of these games! No skipping quest text when that’s all there is, ha.
