When NCsoft announced earlier this month that WildStar would be sunsetting, most MMO players were upset, but not surprised, except about one little detail: NCsoft hadn’t actually said when it would sunset. That led to plenty of speculation and even hope that the game would last through the year, especially once the company said it would deliver some of its winter holiday events.
But now it’s official: NCsoft has picked November 28th for the closure. In fact, today’s update was its very last.
“It’s never easy to say goodbye to something, especially something that has meant so much for so many—but the WildStar game service will close on November 28, 2018,” the company says, noting that purchases made since July 1st will be refunded, while WildStar CREDD currency still unused will be converted into NCoin for use in (some) of NCsoft’s other western titles.
Today’s update bumps everyone up to Signature status, boosts drops and resource gains, maxes faction grinds, buffs omnibit drops, and allows cash-shop items to be purchaseable with omnibits. As for those promised events, expect the Residential Renovation even to begin on October 12, then Halloween starting on the 19th, then Winterfest beginning on November 9th, and the final zPrix Invitational from November 24th. The studio is planning something for the last day too:
“Join us in-game for the final few hours as we have some fun. More details to come!”

It is with great sadness that we say farewell as WildStar signs off for good on November 28. We’ve just released an update that turns off purchases, and turns on in-game events and bonuses. More info: https://t.co/xUyIVs7nJS pic.twitter.com/SzJbTpJ9Yv

This is terrible
It’s tragic that Carbine is to suffer the same fate with it’s creation as the Eldan did with theirs. I’m sorry Drusera, we couldn’t save Nexus.
Well, I’m fine.
/Boo!!
Isn’t that exactly 1 year after the sudden closure of MarvelHeroes?
And nearly 6 years to the day (Nov 30 into Dec 1) after the closure of City of Heroes.
Again:
Bye, Wildstar. I’ll try my best to miss you.
The strangers in this town,
They raise you up just to cut you down
Oh Angela it’s a long time coming
one ncsoft tradition alive and well at carbine is the old “GM’s fucking about by spawning world bosses in populated locations at the end of things”. they’ve done it at the end of just about every major ptu and prior to f2p patch in live, and ofc back in beta.
so get your red shoes on and get ready to dance the blues. with some big ass bosses.
Now that sounds like a fun way to go out. Even better if they had snarky commentary from the level-up announcer.
I think they might have learned that from Cryptic. Hamidon was a frequent “guest” in Pocket D after company-run events in CoH. They’ve continued the tradition in CO, where Megalodon is the post-CC piñata of choice.
the tradition at ncsoft goes back to lineage 1. we got alot of it in l2 well before coh.
This breaks my heart. I’ll definitely be there for the last hurrah.
Kudos to NCSoft for giving currency conversions, bonuses, and buffs to players for this last couple of months. +10
Ever since the sad news was announced I’ve been thinking seriously of returning for one last hurrah. My gut feeling is the laws of inertia will kick in and I will probably procrastinate until it’s too late, but I would hope I don’t. Would have definitely preferred a three month window of opportunity, but two should be sufficient. That said, I’ve not played Wildstar in a few years, so it would be interesting (for what it’s worth) to see what’s changed.
Just read that the Star Trek Online expansion Age of Discovery is dropping October 9th, at least a month sooner than I was anticipating. Doesn’t look at all good for a return to Wildstar. Sighs.
