It turns out that people are very excited to play trading card games in digital format. So why not play the original trading card game in digital format? Yes, it’s Magic: the Gathering Arena, and it’s now in open beta so everyone can get down to some original-style card-slinging. Not that the game has been stagnant in the years since its creation, and the open beta includes cards from the latest set, Guilds of Ravnica, before its actual retail release!

Magic: the Gathering Arena will also allow you to redeem digital codes earned by purchasing physical products, so that pack of Ravnica cards can also unlock stuff in the digital game. It’s meant to be accessible whether you’ve never played the game before or you used to walk down to the nearest store selling the cards in middle school while you learned to play Revised Edition, so regardless of which camp you fall into, you can check it out now.

I played magic for long time. Used theold MTGO client, the new MTGO client. Which was way better in terms of style and usefullness. No bells and whistles though. But it does not need to be a drawback. Not at all. You could purchase and trade and whatnot.

This arena stuff client abomination, its big and ugly imo. The store is to much the emphasis on this one.

I prefer elderscrolls legends way more.

Blizzard ruined the genre for ever.

Very clean and succinct version of MTG. Been playing MTG since 1992 off and on, and I have to say, I’m enjoying the quick gameplay of Arena. While there will always be a special place in my heart for classic Magic, I don’t have the time or the patience to actually play it anymore. MTG:A is pretty solid. I’ll be playing it more.

For anyone trying this out – you can use the code “PlayRavnica” to get 3 free boosters in the in-game store. (And if you’ve been in the closed beta check your mail for another redeemable code.)
