Warframe devstream addresses content drought, previews Fortuna update features

Last Friday, the folks at Digital Extremes held their latest Warframe devstream, and they’ve helpfully provided a nice, digestible recap of the big topics discussed. The recap opens by addressing the proverbial elephant in the room: “We’re aware of our current content drought,” it says, “but we have some amazing things planned for the rest of 2018 for our content-hungry Tennos.” The game’s PC players can expect “a mainline update . . . to help pave the way to Fortuna,” which will include a couple of new graphical settings options, unlimited-use Archwing Launchers, and an improved gear wheel, among other things.

The bulk of the devcast and the recap thereof, however, is focused on the hotly anticipated Fortuna update, which will be introducing a wealth of new features to the game. The team has unveiled the map of the new Orb Vallis zone that will be coming with Fortuna, showing off its impressive scale. They also gave players another look at the upcoming K-Drives, which are basically personal-transport hoverboards that will be useful for both getting around and doing sick tricks, bro.

The devs revealed that players will be able to mod their K-Drives to alter its speed, handling, and style stats, with style mods providing players with “cool attack bonuses” when they pull off tricks. Players can even mount and dismount their K-Drives in midair, earning score bonuses for any kills they get in the process. For all the details, you can check out the devstream recap over at the Warframe official site, or you can see the full stream in its entirety down below.

Not bad… I think I have all my archwing weapons maxed out, so once the heavy weapons category goes live, I’ll probably try a Terminator RhinoP with Grattler. Or with Phaedra – both will be badass.

Warframe is INCREDIBLY successful at creating a satisfying “gun-feeling” in some of its weapons. But the Grattler? Holy crap. Hands down one of the most fun weapons in the game. What I wouldn’t do to see something like that on-planet! (I just got it the other day and it is one of the most Orky weapons in the game next to the Grakata. Dakkadakkadakka!)

That Grattler sounds like i’ll have to check that out ;)

“gun-feeling” agreed! For my main i use a Soma Prime and a Supra Vandal, sometimes a Braton Prime. Side arm Pyrana Prime and a Akzani.

They all feel so good right down to the sound effects. I’ll get into a zone just hamming mobs coming up a corridor on a Void Fissure defense run and i’ll get so into it that, more than once i’ve forgotten to collect reactant.

My usual weapon of choice for archwing missions is Fluctus, as it is by far the best for taking down swarms of moving targets (and would also be loads of fun in narrow corridors of regular missions) and Grattler is a bit difficult to shoot effectively at longer ranges, i.e. in 100% of archwing missions…

But in closed spaces that will be a whole another story! Especially if we’ll be able to slap on +extra explosion radius (which I’m 99% sure DE won’t allow – to use primary weapons mods for archwing guns, even if used as the primary weapon). Grattler with +explosion and any +dmg / crit / multishot mods would be incredibly overpowered for planetary missions.

Power strength RhinoP walking slowly through a mission not giving a damn about cover, with a Grattler in hands – that will be like ’84 Arnold walking through the police station.

Good to know the Fluctus is good, i only need the Fluctus Barrel from Cephalon Suda but haven’t even started that Syndicate yet. Almost done Amesha only need nitain extract, so many things i want require nitain.

It’s funny — the notion of “content drought” is so relative. For someone like me who never gets more than 2 hours of gaming in a day (on a good day!), the notion of outpacing the available content of a years-old MMO seems rather peculiar. With Warframe, I’m so far from that happening it’s not even funny.

I think the overhaul to the login rewards is great. I guess I’m curious if there is going to be any retroactive rewards for people who have passed them (I just hit the 300 day mark yesterday) or if everything will only apply moving forward.

That’s exactly what I was wondering – I’m not sure if nobody asked in the live stream or if DE avoided the question…

I believe Rebecca also crafted a custom-built secondary weapon from various specced parts. Really looking forward to that idea!

Yep, they’re called Kitguns! Really pumped about those. I have crafted a one-handed melee weapon (Zaw) and with a crafted secondary, it will be custom mayhem!
