EVE Online will be using its test server for the Chinese version as well

Big money.

We’re sorry to inform you that EVE Online’s Chinese version has gone offline… for the length of time it will take to migrate the servers to direct control of CCP Games. Sorry, that was an unnecessarily ominous pause; we’ll work on fixing that. The company’s new partnership with Netease means that things will be operating differently for the game’s version in China, and that in turn means that the test server will run no longer… as a testbed purely for the Western version of the game.

Yes, the test server will now be getting updates and gewgaws meant for the Chinese playerbase in addition to the main branch of the game, as the plan is to bring Chinese players up to the same place as western audiences. While it’s not a globally shared server, it does mean that there will be closer to parity across the board, a good thing when it comes to balancing and keeping both editions up to date. Nothing ominous about that!
