BlizzCon 2018: Blizzard reveals key panels for Diablo, WoW Classic

Back in time.

We’re just a month away from BlizzCon now, and as it’s the biggest last gaming con of the year that we focus on, we’re as excited as you that Blizzard dropped the schedule of events last night.

Like the last few years, there’s a deluge of esports stuff, but the panel lineup for World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Diablo, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm is also a bit predictable. Aside from the What’s Next panels, which are always worth watching, the most interesting bit is the Restoring History panel for WoW, which will focus on WoW Classic. The WoW Q&A is a necessity too, if only to see what goofy things the team will say live this year too.

It’s possible that Blizzard is hiding some of the panels, of course, in the lead-up to a big reveal. It’s also possible that, as Blizzard Watch half-heartedly proposes, Diablo’s coveted position as the first What’s Next panel immediately after the Opening Ceremony heralds a major announcement other than the teases we’ve already seen. “Typically, the panel that comes after the opening ceremony talks about the big highlight of the event, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that 2018 is finally the year of Diablo,” BW’s Liz Harper writes.

It could be worse, of course: StarCraft II’s What’s Next panel got bumped to day two.

But personally, my hopes are no longer up for anything dazzling at the con, particularly for Diablo, which was my own first Blizzard love. How about you?

I think the two open questions are when and monetization. (One of the things that will get this out sooner(less late), is there is no need for design quandaries; “should it do X?” is answered by “did it do X?”)

Current/$15 sub is both games seems logical. A discounted one for Classic-only probably would get more revenue than it would lose.

There’s going to be a big Diablo announcement. (Taps heels of her Ruby Slippers together.) There’s going to be a big Diablo announcement. (Tap.) There’s going to be a big Diablo announcement. (Furiously taps heels.)

Come onnnn, Diablo Souls.

The genre’s mature enough for Blizzard to take a crack!

Do it. Doooo iiiiit.

Honest question. Will you have to get all the original races in one faction, or at least the race you’re interested in playing, to exalted before you can play Classic WoW?

It will be a separate game, i guess Blizzard will ask people to buy it but pay one subscription for both games, or for free with one sub, so it have nothing to do with current game, you buy it you play it.

You failed the sarcasm test. :P

But … but … he said “honest” question. Don’t make me lose my faith in the internet!

Maybe we should run a Voight-Kampff test? Jeez, it’s almost 2019…

He was making a joke in reference to how Allied Races are unlocked.

in classic you need to be exalted to be able to buy their mounts.

I know a release date for wow classic is extremely unlikely, but at least a vague release window would be cool. Really looking forward to being able to play classic on an official server, after all those years.

there is a supposed “leak” that say April – June 2019. The same guy also said that Blizzcon will have playable demo, before the actual announcement…

I had missed that info. Would be good news indeed.

Supposed Classic launch detail leaks from classicwow

Some things i like some not :) I hope they will launch with more servers! (If we suppose this leak is valid of course)

I think WoW Classic is the only thing that will bring me back into WoW again. But only if it is really classic, vanilla WoW.

And Blizzard agree with you, don’t worry, they want Classic without change, they repeated that many times.

At this point, I really feel that Blizzard has narrowed the game so much and made it so small that Classic and its great open world beckoning the adventurous, will also get me playing WoW again.

I never played Vanilla WoW and stopped playing about a year ago. Classic might bring me back. Looking forward to the demo! And I’m really excited about Diablo, still my favorite game. I really really hope there is a new game coming whatever it might be!

I gotta say, I’m really looking forward to logging into WoW Classic, enjoying it for about 18 minutes, being reminded of all the bad things about vanilla, and then logging off.

I’m really excited for you to do this, because this obviously isn’t the game for you.

There will be enough of a population in Classic that you leaving really won’t be missed.

Tis a joke, my friend :-) No need to be concerned.

Hehehe. Yeah, we’re all gonna remember how fun it is to run. How expensive mounts were, how high a level you had to be to get one and how crafting really made a difference. And loot boxes (no, the old kind) that Rogues had to open.

And clams not stacking, and Hunters overfarming Dire Maul and screwing the market because no nerfs, and Un’goro Mafia, and shitty itemization, etc etc.
