Final Fantasy XIV is weathering intermittent DDOS attacks

It's a boss, and it is deadly.

Ah, the DDOS attack, a time-honored way of making a large number of players upset simply because someone can. Final Fantasy XIV has been suffering under intermittent attacks for the past few days, and producer/director Naoki Yoshida recently shared what news there was to share with the community about these ongoing attacks. The short version is that the team is doing everything possible to counteract these attacks, but as they’ve been both inconsistent and widespread, it can be difficult to efficiently fight them.

Players on the EU datacenter have been hit particularly hard, as the bulk of the attacks appear to have been concentrated there, but NA and JP servers have also been targeted. The goal is to avoid the game as a whole going down, and Yoshida apologizes to players who have been adversely affected by the attacks themselves or by the countermeasures for those attacks. Which isn’t the same as everything being fixed, but the effort is being made just the same.
