Star Citizen’s CitizenCon 2018 has officially begun – here’s how to watch at home

26

Just as this post goes live, Star Citizen’s “CitizenCon 2948” in Austin, Texas, throws open its doors.

You might recall there was initially some fuss over whether participants at home would be able to watch the show being streamed without paying for a ticket, but the good news is that it was resolved and you can. You will, however, need to create a Star Citizen website account and log into it. CIG gave the go-ahead on restreaming, too, so you’ll probably see several of those on Twitch as well. And there’s a big ol’ viewing party on Discord today if you’re so inclined to just watch a parade of memes.

Give the schedule a peek: The opening keynote with Chris Roberts doesn’t actually kick off until 2 p.m. EDT (1 p.m. CDT time) – that’s about four hours from this post going live – so you’ve got plenty of time. And at minimum, you’ll want the capstone presentation tonight at 10 p.m. EDT, when Roberts discusses the “road to release.”

As for what to expect?

“We’re doubling the size and scope of last year’s event, taking advantage of everything our beautiful, family-friendly venue has to offer. We have two full tracks of panels and presentations, hands-on tech demos, and exclusive giveaways. We have immersive experiences that put you in the Star Citizen universe: you’ll find yourself transported to New Austin, Terra in the year 2948, at the most epic happening in the ‘verse, sponsored and hosted by controversial ship slingers, Drake Interplanetary. Reinventing their own image in the wake of PR turbulence and corporate restructuring, Drake has a chip on its shoulder and perhaps a game-changing ace up its sleeve. CitizenCon 2948 is not to be missed.”

Current backers are also looking forward to the alpha 3.3 update rolling out today to the live service for all backers, including the crucial OCS component. While Lorville and Hurston were delayed, you can catch them in one of today’s panels instead.

my new sc org took part in a multi org event this past weekend to say good bye to 3.2. alot of #just3.2things in this vid that only people who play know about the game lol. some good shit. honestly 3.1 and 3.2 have been such good milestones i am hyped for 3.3 not for the blingy shit that is most talked about but all the stuff that is barely getting talked about at all.

anyways if you’re downloading and sampling ptu today keep in mind PTUs are always crashy af and this one will be no exception. unless you got a hard on to fly a hammerhead solo you may wanna wait for live which last two milestones has been while still broken and buggy in many ways massively more playable and pleasant than ptu’s.

now for a couple videos highlighting the difference between being good at pve in sc and being good at pvp

there seems to be that perception, maybe because alot of the people that stream/yt the game including me spend alot of our video time just sight seeing and exploring or w/e instead of doing the content that is actually there.

which there is a decent amount, but it’s of mixed quality right now in part due to ai development state being what it is, in part just maybe poorly tuned/overly long right now.

my buddy i often play with allyghost unlocked the one bit of content which is obfuscated by requiring a good amount of at once play time to unlock as well as not being well known how it works or that it’s there at all, the eckhart bounty missions, which once unlocked is a pretty solid source of income that’s not too overbearing like normal combat patrol missions time wise and has a nice pvp element to it.

I’ve learned more about SC from DK than from, say, CIG.

they have a lot of noise and a bad habitof showing what might in game months and years from now rather than what’s in game now. forgiveable maybe during 2.x but in 3.x the draw of playing it now is known mostly through word of mouth, which honestly it does seem more populated in game than ever before the past some months. but still just alotof people dont know what’s what about the game right now.

i figure cig would be better suited making semi demo/tutorial vids of what’s what in the game in 3.3 instead of the regular weekly spam they do but yeah idk.

My wife was just in Austin a week ago and told me about a bridge that is home to tens of thousands of bats, and at night the bats fly out from underneath the bridge and it’s quite a sight.

Anyways, I fully expect BatFlight to be a new SC feature announced at CitizenCon, and for the new cash shop ship, “Swarm of Bats”, to be purchaseable in December (but not flyable until 2028).

They gonna showcase a carrier ship Kraken that holds interceptors. So your shitpost happens to be close enough

can i ask why you have to continue to be so w/e? most people that comment on this shit aside from the shit posts as usual just still click on the game because they have interest.

is that not what we would want as backers? to have more interested people potentially buying in on the game’s real merits and delivering in the important ways?

the kraken ad was awesome af. the stream the followed – i was dying inside from the references to old quotes and docs while delivering in a clearly live demo we’re about to get the patch for.

and you know what? this is all my bitching the past years heard, realized and at least somewhat confronted>

and that’s what we should celebrate.
