Just Survive will in fact survive beyond its planned October sunset

Last month, H1Z1 players got the sad (if not entirely surprising) news that Daybreak would be sunsetting the game’s Just Survive component on October 24th, but it appears that all hope is not yet lost: On a recent livestream, Jace Hall – who joined Daybreak as the PC lead for the battle royale half of game, now known as Z1 Battle Royale, shortly before the Just Survive sunset was announced – dropped the news that he is trying to find a way to incorporate Just Survive into the recent joint venture with NantWorks, which had initially only included the transfer of the game’s Battle Royale component.

Hall was careful with his announcement, however, and he stressed the fact that nothing is set in stone yet and that there’s no guarantee that Just Survive will… well, survive. Nevertheless, it would appear that regardless of how things play out, Just Survive has been saved from its October sunset.

“What that means is Just Survive will continue and our intention is to put it into a maintenance mode for a moment but then we want to work with the community over time and figure out the right way to re-integrate Just Survive as a mode inside of Z1. There’ll be a survival mode, you’ll see Just Survive.”

Beyond that, there’s no telling what the future holds for Just Survive; we’ll just have to wait and see.

I dont know if it matters at this point, but I actually think these games are heading in a better direction with Jace leading. I’m rooting for this particular approach to bringing the game back to life, but probably not playing it for a long time.

It simply serves the populace as a reminder of the inadequacies of Daybreak. Shut it down unceremoniously.

Add it to the All Access pass. I’d play it and toss some money into it.

I don’t play the game, but he’ll have my respect if he can find a way to save it for those who do.

Daybreak seems directionless at this point. Besides the yearly EQ/EQ2 expansions, they’re only in the news for shutting down games and making poor naming decisions.

I put too many hours into Just Survive, but I won’t pretend it was a good game. The zombies were never a threat, so playing on a PvE server was just running around collecting resources for your base and then driving cars in circles. On PvP servers, it was basically just a FFA deatmatch mode with zombies and wolves for decoration.

I suppose that this story at least gives us some insight into who owns what and just how “joint” this joint venture is.

I just assumed that joint venture was a reference to Jace Hall hotboxing the Daybreak conference room.

Of all the SOE/DBG games that have shut down, Just Survive is the one that gets a last second stay of execution.

There is a god and he is a comedian.

So…wait. There is a chance that the game that started a s the primary mode, got sidelined for the battle royale mode, lost its name (to a game where the name MAKES NO SENSE ANYWAY), and was announced to be shut down, could stick around if it becomes a game mode of the re-renamed Z1?

Ye gods, just close it. Save everyone the pain.
