devCAT Studio reveals new character trailer for upcoming MOBA Ascendant One

Developer devCAT Studio, creator of Welsh- and Irish-mythology-inspired MMORPG Mabinogi developed under Nexon, has unveiled the first character trailer for its upcoming MOBA title Ascendant One. The game appears to put a sci-fi twist on Greek mythology, as the revealed characters so far are all “based on or named after the Greek gods,” according to MMO Culture.

The new trailer focuses on the characters Artemis, Kieron, and Iason, the latter of whom is presumably based on Jason of Argonautica and Medea fame. Beyond the preview of the character models and animations provided in the new trailer, further information on the game — including gameplay details, release date, and whether it’s even going to be released in the West — is scarce, though MMO Culture does report that the game will feature 5v5 matches. Nevertheless, if you want to take a peek at what kind of vibe Ascendant One is aiming to bring to the tried-and-true “mythological heroes as MOBA characters” formula, you can check out the new trailer just below.

Does devcat have any success outside of the Mabinogi franchise? I wish they’d work on a actual sequel true to the spirit of the original game.

The game looks amazing until it switches from Lobby to top down isometric gameplay, and then it just looks boring as shit.

I for one am always trying out new MOBAs the market can bear more. Just because most players already play a certain game in a genre doesn’t mean you stop making them otherwise we’d only have like 1 game in each genre.
