ZeniMax Online Studios is hiring for an MMO project based on ‘an exciting new IP’

A new job posting on ZeniMax Online Studios’s career site reveals that the studio is looking to hire a core tech programmer to join the team at its Hunt Valley, Maryland office. Although this normally wouldn’t be a particularly newsworthy piece of information on its own, the posting itself reveals a potentially juicy bit of information: The studio, which is primarily known for its work on The Elder Scrolls Online, is apparently developing a new project based on “an exciting new IP.”

Beyond that, however, the posting doesn’t provide a wealth of information about what this new project could be. What we do know, though, is that the posting asks that applicants have a “strong technical knowledge of Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC,” which would suggest that the project will be coming to PC and consoles alike. The listing also lists “MMO development experience” under the desired skills section, so it’s probably a safe bet that the project is an MMO, though that would seem like a given anyway in light of the studio’s focus on online games. Hopefully we’ll hear more about this mystery project in the near future, but for now, let the speculation commence.

Given how bad ESO is I’m not hugely excited…..

ESO bad? Its actually one of the best mmoRPGs on the market…

Which only means the market is in pretty bad shape. Besides, people will play any MMO with a good IP behind it, no matter how bad it is.

Your opinion – I tried it recently and thought it was one of the worst MMOs I’ve played over the many years I’ve been playing them

I’ve played/tried almost every MMORPG out there since 2007, that’s well over 150 games and besides WoW (Vanilla, not the current garbage), ESO is the only other great MMORPG. There is nothing else. Not Guild Wars 2, which is pretty cheap, FF14, current WoW, none of them are worth it.

Your opinion – Every MMO I tried over the years (except wow), barely kept my interest before ditching it. Then I tried ESO.

Makes sense. New gaming hardware & consoles and TES6 on the horizon and cross platform play likely becoming a standard going forward. I can totally see them shifting to a new mmo in the near future.

Only question i have is if it is a new ip for THEM or a wholly original ip created BY them?

I think that question needs to go a step further: is it actually a new IP, or are they continuing the widespread misuse of the term “IP” and actually just referring to a new setting, or new set of characters, within a pre-existing IP?

It’s probably not a 100% MMO, wouldn’t that compete directly with ESO? I’m guessing something more like Warframe or a Survival or even a Battle Royale.

If they wanted to create that type of game – they could just ask Bethesda to, for example, expand a FO76 map and add a few more people. Just imagine: 100-player game, which begins with huge Vertibirds dropping people off, where you can loot all the current weapons from FO4, as well as a few sets of Power Armor for which you will have to loot a Fusion Cell first ;-) Plus add in some random spawns of Feral Ghouls and other monsters. Bethesda could easily do this alone.

Would be really amusing if it would be a Fallout-themed MMO, using same awful engine as in ESO, resulting in same poor performance, same awful character animations and same outdated art/graphics style… And it would actually make sense to go with Fallout universe since the upcoming FO76 is nothing more than a “small-scale co-op” that was supposed to be included with original game and which will be forgotten very quickly ;-)

Great! I’m tired of the boring old IPs.

Fingers crossed they hire someone who can make a UI this time round!!

I wonder what it will be Fantasy, Sci Fi, Horror, Modern, Western???? I hopes its not another ACTION mmo whatever genre it is.

“New IP” y’all, ain’t gonna be Fallout or anything from their existing portfolio.

That being said, that’s pretty great news. Outside of Division 2/Crew 2 (Ubisoft is holding down the fort with the AAA psuedo-MMO’s!),and I guess Destiny 3 down the road a bit, I don’t think we really have any major/AAA MMO’s from big-name publishers announced/coming out.

They did a good job learning from ESO’s early stumbles and turning it around (damnit…I need to jump back in at some point!) so hopefully whatever else they’re working on will include a lot of those learnings and be rad.

I would consider both Ashes of Creation and Star Citizen AAA MMOs, taking into account the budget they managed to aquire.

I doubt it would be another Elder Scrolls mmo as much as I would love a sandbox one and with Fallout 76 coming out I wonder if that would rule out a Fallout mmo too .

Could it be a deal with the developers of one of the titles they publish ? Doom or Dishonored ?

Dishonored might be cool with its steampunk setting .

Fallout MMO maybe?
