One Shots: Waifu dreams

Make no bones about it, MapleStory 2 is as anime as they come. Need proof beyond the huge eyes, overdone expressions, and ultra-saturated cuteness? How about the fact that you can grab a waifu body pillow and use it to zoom around the landscape. ‘Tis true.

“I got a new mount,” said reader Line. “Yes, it’s a body pillow with some bloke named Blake on it. And yes, I run faster than my car when I hold it. Why? Who knows.”

Blake knows. Oh yes he does. But he’s not telling.

Now that I’m recovering from putting a sexy body pillow as a headlining pic, how about something that’s equally small yet more down to Middle-earth?

Amorey is evaluating Lord of the Rings Online’s new Update 23: “Mordor is still dark and depressing but they tuned the area difficulty enough for me to do a bit of questing. I am trying my best, but it is very slow and sometime frustrating. However I managed to get almost to level 112! The new Hobbit avatar models are OK.”

Keep plugging away, Amorey — it gets way better post-Mordor!

World of Warcraft’s recent Gnome Run drew out massive crowds of pint-sized crazies, as it always does. Looks like many of them had fun, too, including reader Hirku.

“The Gnome run was a great time,” Hirku said. “The after-party in Orgrimmar, not so much.”

Rafael is entertaining himself by creating outfits in Blade and Soul that were rewarded by a giant spinning prize wheel:

“So step right up. Step right up! Don’t be shy. Let the wheel reward your fortune! All you have to do is kill that big ugly over there. Sure you might die, but look at this sweet outfit you just might win! The resulting outfit? It’s a little breezy.”

Six million avatars die every year from inadequate clothing for their environs.

Heading back to LOTRO, Paragon Lost shares another picture of Gandalf confronting Wormtongue and Theoden. I always found Gandalf’s mercy to this jerk a little too… merciful. I mean, you don’t have to kill him, but why not throw him in Bad Guy Jail? Put him in the time out corner? Just setting him free to do more mischief seems somewhat irresponsible.

Time for another weekly screenshot challenge! With so many Halloween festivals in full swing now, take a picture of a transformed landscape, a spooky special instance, or other seasonal decorations and outfits to share with us!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!

A little bit of fun in FFXIV! My character is dressed as a dragon with All Saint’s Wake decorations in the background. I’ve been having fun creating my own costumes from the hundreds of pieces of glamour I have sitting around.

Hey there! I hope everyone is well. As for me, everything’s coming up rainbows over in FFXIV since I recently encountered this rare bit of weather over the Azim Steppe. I’ve played for 5 years, and this is the first time I recall seeing a rainbow in the sky. By the time I’d run to post my find on twitter, the sky had changed to bright and clear sunshine.

Heh. That Spider is big enough to drive like a 4×4. Hmm… those eggs in the distance… that is not a good place is it.

Reader
Utakata

Their are a quest to go burn those eggs. You may not know that since you skip a lot of quests… >.>

…but yeah, those big spiders do jump you when you go all out Sigourney Weaver on the eggs. ‘Specially the ones that hang from the trees. o.O

Reader
rafael12104

Ah yes. I remember the quest well. I think a mother spider appears out of nowhere. Lol. A big sucker too.

Sorry about the name, I clicked “No Hud” and this is what I got…I’m a lazy photo person.
This is the fourth floor of the hub area in Monster Hunter World. Halloween in-game is currently over (just like in real life…right?) so I had to grab some screenies before it ended. Not pictured are the bipedal cats dressed as ghosts with pumpkins on their heads ’cause no one likes cat photos (and totally NOT because I forgot to take any).

…goodness, that’s a wide sword. Must be designed for something big that needs deep cuts to disable! O.o

Reader
rafael12104

Agree. It has a hilt like a sword, but it is as wide as a shield. I bet it is a little of both.

Careful how you pick it up!

Oh, nice. Thanks for the shout out on the “breezy” outfit. Heh. Spinning those reward wheels does pay off from time to time.

For this week? Well, how about this one hot off the presses.

This is the last defense of the House of Pleasures. Evil hoards are about to overrun the place, but this week, the defenders have taken a decidedly Hallows approach to the madness complete with pumpkin charm neckless.

I feel a little out of place in my Xena Queen of the Breezy Outfits. But meh, my Greatsword is fierce enough.

I changed the gamma and contrast for these shots in WoW. I have to say I’m always impressed by the environment artists. (this has nothing to do with the contest :D)

Very atmospheric and spooky. Its great how you can change the feel of a screenshot just by messing with the sliders a bit :-)

I wanted the colours to be richer and it seemed to work by playing with the gamma and contrast and a bit of brightness

Reader
rafael12104

Cool. I enjoy cool dark spots and scenes. The way they were intended in many cases. But as you know, people go crazy with gamma correction so dark corners look like well-lit walkways.

Ya if you set it at around .7 on the gamma scale in wow it really makes it dark at night.

Keep plugging away, Amorey — it gets way better post-Mordor!

Thanks for the encouragement , it will take me much longer than others but one day I’ll get out of Mordor hopefully and when I do I’ll dance, skip and hops all the way to the new content.

As for this week challenge…Landmark was my favorite place at this time of the year . I would spend many hours building and decorating. I am still very sad the game was taken away from us. Every new season was an excuse to build something new and more exciting. Here are some of my memories from when the game was still in beta 🎃

Not just MJ. I try to remember that game with a lot of fondness too so I can avoid being bitter about it. Glad I got the opportunity try it and spend a lot of quality time in Landmark.

Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all is what I am trying to get at :-)

LoL, it was just too perfect of a reply: I only played Landmark like twice & didn’t really care for it myself, but i still understand the pain and nostalgia people get as there has been no replacement other than a few PvP gank boxes that fail to catch the spirit.

I’ve been going to great lengths to avoid capturing Halloween decorations in my screenshots, but I did take one shot of World of Warcraft’s Headless Horseman flying unchallenged in the gloomy skies over Azure Watch. Also, some action/emote shots. Finally captured that backflip kick!

Natalie Portman is the reason I work out

I have this fantasy where we start talking at the Vanity Fair Oscars party bar. We exchange a few pleasantries. She asks what I do. I say I loved her in New Girl. She laughs. I get my drink.

“Well, see ya,” I say and walk away. I’ve got her attention now. How many guys voluntarily leave a conversation with Natalie Portman? She touches her neck as she watches me leave.

Later, as the night’s dragged on and the coterie of gorgeous narcissists grows increasingly loose, she finds me on the balcony, my bowtie undone, smoking a cigarette.

“Got a spare?” she asks.

“What’s in it for me?” I say as I hand her one of my little white ladies. She smiles.

“Conversation with me, duh.”

I laugh.

“What’s so funny?” she protests.

“Nothing, nothing… It’s just… don’t you grow tired of the egos?”

“You get used to it,” she says, lighting her cigarette and handing me back the lighter.

“What would you do if you weren’t an actress?” I ask.

“Teaching, I think.”

“And if I was your student, what would I be learning?”

“Discipline,” she says quickly, looking up into my eyes, before changing the subject. “Where are you from?”

“Bermuda,” I say.

“Oh wow. That’s lovely.”

“It’s ok,” I admit. “Not everything is to my liking.”

“What could possibly be not to your liking in Bermuda?” she inquires.

“I don’t like sand,” I tell her. “It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.”
