Destiny leaker AnonTheNine dishes out potential Destiny 3 details

According to a series of Reddit posts from Destiny leaker AnonTheNine, Bungie has already begun development on Destiny 3, and if the leaks are to be believed, the next installment of the sci-fi shooter series will be considerably more hardcore, with a greater focus on the game’s RPG elements: “Just know that D3 will be even more ‘hardcore-y’ than Forsaken. And finally they’re going to push the RPG side of the game,” AnonTheNine writes. According to another post, Chris Barrett is heading up the project as game director with “Luke Smith still there in a big role.”

The noteworthy leaker also posted a thread to /r/DestinyTheGame entitled “Can’t wait,” which contained nothing but a link to an image of Europa, suggesting that the smallest of Jupiter’s moons will be among Guardians’ destinations in Destiny 3. Other leaks regarding the potential new installment include a claim that the game will include open-world PvPvE areas similar to The Division’s Dark Zone, though AnonTheNine clarifies that players should “Think more about it like fight for a territory, where PvP [is] there for a reason and not for griefing the heck out of people.”

As with any leak, especially one that can’t be corroborated by multiple sources, all of these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, but AnonTheNine’s track record is pretty solid, with numerous successful predictions regarding the new locations and subclasses in the recently released Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2, among others. For now, though, we’ll just have to wait and see, but in the meantime, let the rampant speculation begin!

The design school of “keep shifting direction and we will find something that sticks eventually” huh. Par for the course for “this shit aint our baby, those guys jumped ship years ago but activision has a contract and needs their products even if we dont know what to make”.

Ironically reminding me of 343 and the Halo franchise after bungie jumped ship from MS. History repeats i guess.

Hardcore. Maybe instead of throwing around a word like that, which isn’t likely to draw in a crowd cause who cares if a game is hardcore or not, how about a good game that does more than present damage sponges in place of bosses. Also, maybe get rid of micro-transactions or alternatively go F2P (stop trying to be a full retail game with F2P monetization on top of DLCs expansions).

Or, and here is an idea, fix Destiny 2. The game isn’t even 2 years old.

Let it die Jim….

Just….let it die…

Nothing can safe its life anymore…

Not even a third instalment as people have been fooled one to many times.

There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.

So, does that “RPG” mean story, stats, social elements … The term has gotten very broad of late.

really, it just means leveling and stats for most people, maybe some story.

I’ll believe it when I see it…3-4 months after launch once we see how things shake out after the initial rush. D2 utterly destroyed any trust or faith I had in Bungie.

For a D3 to be more RPG focused would be appealing, story is something they do well… However I would be hesitant to believe this as so far D1 and D2 have outside of the stories they release with been largely just PVP focused after that and pretty much all the other stuff is par for the course PVP junk, which has very little appeal to the RPG and PVE folks..

A D3 will almost certainly just be more of the same. i.e decent story delivery and equal pve and pvp mix, then pretty much everything that follows including events will be almost exclusively PVP oriented. Just like D1 and 2.

Having a Division’esque Dark Zone area would be an awful idea as that is by FAR the worst thing about Division lol

if… IF…. _IF_ any of this leaked info is true, it would show that Bungie still is still way to focused on PvP with their game… which will most likely mean D3 will suffer from the same things D1 and D2 did… which is extreme lack of content and replayability unless you enjoy pvp.

It’s very likely true. The guy’s nailed pretty much every prediction he’s made since D1; it’s assumed he’s an insider there. I heavily disagree on the lack of PvE content in D2 right now though. There’s far more of it than PvP, the main problem is not all of it’s accessible without a pre-formed group or lucky zone placement due to their lack of comprehensive matchmaking.

1. It took D2 well over a year to get to a “reasonable amount of content”. Many still felt that before the last expansion, even with 3 DLCs, it was still sorely lacking.

2. PvP “content” is sort of an oxymoron. PvP’s “content” is from the people playing it. Its that aspect of dynamic and unknown that keeps many pvpers interested in it. You dont measure pvp “content” on the number of quests or zones or story like you do with PvE. Its like comparing apples to oranges.

3. You can measure foucs spent. And by that aspect, PvP has gotten as much, if not more focus than anything else in the game. Its the one aspect of the game that gets significant focus every patch, where as PvE focus comes and goes depending on if there is a new DLC, or months of no DLC.

From a “Are players happy” perspective, D2’s launch was a Flop. The 6 month period after go live was STILL a flop. Tons of players stopped playing because there was nothing to do UNLESS you enjoyed PvP. All Im saying is that it looks like Bungie is going to just stick to the SAME formula they have been using for D1 and D2, when it comes to D3. Where PvP is the only constant they maintain throughout, with PvE content being thin and mediocre until the big expansion drop 1+ years after the game goes live.

It took well over a year for D2 to get a reasonable amount of *anything*. It wasn’t in any better of a place for PvP than it was for PvE, if you know anything about the game’s PvP. Nobody liked the PvP, not casual players and not the actual PvP community from the first game. The game was dead because none of the community, except the 2-3 hours/week casual PvE player, had anything to do in the game.

How does PvP get significant focus every patch? Weapon balancing? Of course that’s going to happen in response to PvP, because that’s where the balancing actually matters. It’s not like they’re adding a bunch of new game modes or PvP-only weapon sets or anything else every month. Again, I’m really not seeing the focus on PvP here.
