The Daily Grind: What MMO do you worry might sunset before you can play it fully?

All right, let's spin our wheels for a bit now.

There are only so many hours and only so much interest one can pour into MMOs on any given day. That means that some titles get attention while others fall by the wayside, destined to be ignored forever. Yet there are MMOs that we promise ourselves we will get around to playing… one of these days. Some day.

Unfortunately, time moves forward, even for games we’re not playing and communities we’re not experiencing. There’s always the possibility that those “one of these days I’ll dive into it” MMOs will close or sharply decline before we get enough time or personal interest to experience them.

Do you have any of these games on your backburner? Do you worry that you won’t be able to fully experience them before they fade away?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

All of them?

Seriously, I’ve never fully played any MMO I’ve tried. I’ve always gotten bored of it before I’ve been able to play it fully. Once the grind hits (and it always does), I start finding myself coming back less and less, until, at some point, I never come back at all. I’m still waiting for the MMO that can hold my attention long enough to allow me to play it fully.

Dungeon and dragons online, I think it’s a great game but it hardly has a player base and the graphics are way way dated. Very good game tho and very different than the many wow clones . I think it’s cheap to run I hope? I think it will last another year I worry a’lot when standing stones partner/work with daybreak.

I subbed to DC Universe Online a bit ago, because I like it despite its flaws. I do sometimes wonder how long it might endure.

Nada. I am firmly of the belief that the genre needs a big refresh. I might be sad a little if some of the older classics went away, but I certainly don’t worry about not fully playing any of them. I’ve got far greater priorities in life.

Nothing currently on my radar seems to be in any imminent danger. But then, neither did CoH.

Why is FFXIV pictured? Something happening at SE that I don’t know about?

Two, DDO and ESO. Both share an interface that I just don’t care for and causes me issues. It’s how they do the move/view/mouse. (sigh) Same crap that Funcom did when they betrayed and abandoned we fans of TSW to come up with the half baked, TSW lite known as SWL. That mouse/view/move interface just totally sucks for some of us.

Edit: Though in general Rafael12104 pretty much nailed my over all feelings.

Right now? Hmm. None. Yeah, I’ve played all of the games that have any inkling of interest for me.

MMO coverage has improved vastly over the years. So, gone are the days where we have to rely on forum warriors tainted opinions. Heh. These days, I can get reviews and opinions, from MOP, see and experience gameplay via Twitch and Youtube, and play most games in question in early access, trials, or because they are F2P.

So, very little danger in a game sunsetting that I wanted to play but never got around to it.

Now some games may become must plays over time as they evolve, but that is a rarity. Only FFXIV has made the leap IMO. Most games, unfortunately, get worse, not better. Lol.

None, because I’m already playing the only ones that I fully care about. SWL is like the only side-MMO I occasionally dip into that might face a potential sunset sooner than others I play, but I don’t really care enough at this point to worry about getting through its content.
