BlizzCon 2018 announces headlining bands: Train, Lindsey Stirling, and HODOR

Here we go again.

Blizzard’s just announced this morning the headlining band for this year’s BlizzCon, and it’s a tiny bit of a puzzler, as it’s actually three music groups, constituting what Blizzard is calling its own “mini music festival.”

Train is one of those long-running bands you’ve definitely heard even if you can’t remember what they did. We’ll jog your memory below.

Lindsey Sterling is known for her funky violin-plus-dance videos, insanely huge YouTube following, and global album success.

Kristian Nairn – probably best known for his role as Hodor on Game of Thrones – is also a DJ with published dance mixes, so that ought to be fun too. Incidentally, we interviewed him on the podcast years back as he’s a huge World of Warcraft and MMORPG fan, and he was an absolute delight.

Past acts at the show include Blink-182, Metallica, the Foo Fighters, Tenacious D, Linkin Park, Weird Al, and Muse so maybe this isn’t that weird after all.

Train is better than the other try hard/edge lord bands Blizzcon has hosted in the past. lol But I can see why people think its a bad fit.

Lindsey Stirling performed at one of the past DotA 2 Internationals so not too surprising that Blizzard would get her for Blizzcon, esp. since she’s done plenty of violin covers of video game music in the past on her YouTube.

What a nice surprise. I never thought I’d actually take any interest in what music played at Blizzcon.

Lindsey Stirling is greatly entertaining. I’ve watched her music videos for years, and I’m sure she’ll kill it.

I wonder how much DJ Hodor’s price has gone up, I remember seeing him play back in 2013 at a very small (around a thousand people) convention in Toronto. I guess he’s way more high profile now!

I’ve seen Train live exactly once, and it wasn’t by choice. It was the 2016 Stadium Series game between the Pens and Flyers at Heinz Field, and the original 2nd intermission band had to cancel at the last minute because the lead singer had laryngitis. In steps Train, who proceeded to play three lame-ass, saccharine lite-pop hits wholly inappropriate for an NHL game between two rivals prone to mayhem. Absolute buzzkill.

So BlizzCon attendees have that to look forward to. Should be fun, right?

(The worst part of that hockey game was that, had their schedules aligned a few days better, the NHL could have gotten Japandroids instead. Face-peeling barroom punk perfectly encapsulates the Pens/Flyers rivalry.)

Yes however Lindsey always has something new and keeps it fresh. She is also the young lady who proved Simon Cowell is an idiot. https://youtu.be/dQiNVk_u0po

A correction though, that doesn’t look like Simon Cowell in the video. Looks like that asshat Piers Morgan, and Sharon Osborne and Howie Mandel. I don’t watch any of these shows but I’m basing it on the video that Bree linked below yours.

I am a fan of Stirling, she’s quite talented and I’ve been enjoying her videos for years.

It was but Cowell is the show runner and was calling shots behind the scenes. He is the show runner for American Idol , America’s got talent, and Xfactor. Not sure if he is involved with the voice.

Train? They would have been perfect for Blizzcon ’98.
