What’s spooky in Star Trek Online? When research goes awry! The mini-mission Hearts and Minds is back for Halloween. Maybe they could have called it Hearts and Brains! Massively OP’s MJ doesn’t think those researchers will ever learn; she’s going back to witness the consequences of that research and maybe try to clean things up a bit. Tune in live at 2:00 p.m. EDT to join her.

I don’t remember the name, but the Fed mission in the Drozana Station basement was a great Halloween mission even if it wasn’t officially one. Very dark and spooky, felt like System Shock.

The reward is nice a (blue) DOFF, a Lirpa (blue) and a zombie dance emote.. but the quest itself is pretty shameful in terms of content… you beam down, read a console, head to the next room and fight some spiders, open another console, fight a clone, head to the enxt room fight some more spiders, head to the final room fight a bunch of clones and that is it… LITERALLY. All done in less than 2 minutes flat.

Every single other quest in that game is longer and has more content to it, so even just as a quest let alone an actual Halloween event quest it is VERY poor.

You haven’t done ‘Crystalline Catastrophe’ lately have you. A good team can finish that in under a minute. ;)

And while, yes, you CAN speed run it. If you’ve never done it before and take the time to read/listen to elements of the story it has, it’s an atmospheric diversion suited to Halloween (and any Friday the 13th they roll it out for).

That said, it would be nice if they added a bit of random variation to it once and a while, but that takes work and Cryptic rarely reworks content unless it’s REALLY outdated, and part of their ‘main STO storyline’ progression.

At least with the Crystalline Catastrophe (which is not a quest I might add but a space STF and an Event in and of itself) you have a reason to do it again, fast or unfast..
This Halloween Quest however “Hearts and Brains” is exactly the same now as it was when they implemented it. Same shockingly short content, same reward and no real incentive to play it again..EVER. :)

I ran through it last night on three characters. It seemed to be the easiest way to get each of them (all 65s) a higher level melee weapon. And it’s nice to have one of those handy for Borg-missions when they adapt their shielding but are too close/too many to take the time to keep switching your gun frequency.

If you raise your OMEGA rep and use the MACO armor set on borg missions you wont have to worry about borg adaption. Alternatively search the exchange for the universal kit modules some of those like Cold Fusion etc.. are incre4dibly powerful and useful against all enemies..borg included. Also specialise in the Temporal Agent branch so your captain can use Temporal kit modules some of those make short work of everything.
