City of Heroes SEGS emulator patches in early content

Perhaps the best shot of getting City of Heroes back as we once knew it lies in the hands of the outlaw developers over at SEGS. It’s a project that hopes to be fully online in around a year-and-a-half, and to aid in that effort, the team just pushed out the game’s 0.6.0 patch, code-named “Outbreak.”

According to the team, “This version features numerous updates, fixes and additions to the code that will allow you to run a server that is compatible with the Issue 0/1 client of City of Heroes.” Players testing this out will discover early powers, “preliminary” buffs and enhancements, and basic zoning. There are other important functions that came in the patch, like respawning at the hospital (good times) and player-to-player trading.

The team is also working hard on developing Lua scripting so that admins can tinker with the content for individual servers. You can check out some of the early visual effects that have been added in a short video below.
