Star Citizen is delaying quite a bit of alpha 3.4 into 3.5 to make its December goal – including female toons

Cloud Imperium’s Sandi Gardiner and Chris Roberts are back with another episode of Star Citizen’s Around the Verse – with good news and bad news. The good news is that alpha 3.3 – the stable version – is officially going live today, with 3.35 (including Hurston and Lorville) queued up behind it. “The most important thing is that the Object Container Streaming technology is now stable enough for us to go live, and that’s a big, big thing as we’ve been working on that for well over a year,” he explains.

The bad news – and you can probably see this coming already – is that some of the content planned for 3.4 is being pushed off into 3.5. Without the delay of specific content, nothing would be ready to show before the December holidays.

“Now, we’re going to have the Hurston Business District in 3.4, so we’re making sure that that’s going to be in and polished. We’re going to do a lot more work and improvements on the FOIP and VOIP stuff. The other ships that we had scheduled for coming in for 3.4 will be in 3.4 as well because it’s much easier to bring a ship, or a weapon, or a gun across. But, you’ll know in the roadmap that’s going to be updated tomorrow what has moved and what hasn’t moved.”

CIG is also delaying the female player character (Sandi Gardiner does not look pleased). According to Roberts, the issue there is the difference in skeletons between male and female characters, which requires more tech work on clothing and animations that simple isn’t finished.

The rest of the episode focuses on cloud generation, and you can watch it below.

I think delay is becoming synonymous with CIG but they do seem to be making some headway I will give them that .

But in a game where someone can buy a ship for thousands of dollars which I imagine would take a huge amount of game time to acquire or for someone to be a virtual financial genius to acquire in a more timely fashion I must admit it is certainly a serious negative point for me .

I probably would try it on a free trial if one is available if and when it releases because I do like what I am seeing from Deekay’s videos and decide for myself . But I also wonder what sort of community it will be with the so called “whales” in it .

EVE Online was pretty bad and it didn’t have any kind of pay to win mechanic for much of its history .

I guess I will find out one way or another at some point in the 2020’s if they don’t run out of funding first .

STAR CITIZEN occasionally has “Free Fly” weekends when you can play it for free instead of even a basic $40 ship / game starter pack.

I did take a look a free fly weekend earlier in the year but it seemed too buggy to enjoy at the time but I certainly will take a look again at the next one to see how it is progressing along .

I’ll believe it when I see it. The game doesn’t show much indication to be anywhere near completion and the amount of missed milestones is astonishing. In 2017 Mr. Roberts did believe or wanted people to believe that SQ42 will be ready until the end of the year. We’ve spent almost the entirety of 2018 now with only a trailer which included alot of old footage.

The Kickstarter target date was nov, 2014. While some leeway is due because of the massive success of the campaign and the expansion of scope we’re still 4 years behind that initial target window. People backed a Wing Commander successor. What did they get so far?

They should have released a core game first, keeping to the basics, a minimum of ships, core space gameplay and story and then expand on it much like Elite: Dangerous is doing.

See you a few months for the “3.5 features moved to 3.6” article.

Oh and wake me up when all the features that were due in the 2016 3.0 patch are in.

Well, that’s one way to keep to a schedule….

Though it’s really not that different from ”It’ll be out in two weeks!’ – It comes out a year later’ plan.

Whenever developers start mentioning that the female skeleton is different enough that they need to make changes in their physics engine to accommodate it, I brace myself for ridiculous levels of sexual dimorphism in 3…2…1…

Sorry to disappoint you but they’ve already hinted at no boob or hip sliders, jiggle physics beyond contemporary or super lush hair styles or makeup. <.< It's a space game made by an English man, not a fantasy MMORPG made in Asia.

What was it about my comment that made you think I was in favor of such?

That’s a shame. Micro-gravity jiggle physics could take things to a whole new level.

The folks on the Reddit claim this week’s episode is more critical, open and honest than at any point in development. They praise it for blunt questions being asked and candid answers being given. Some saying it’s on par with any of the best technology episodes they’ve seen from previous videos. I have not seen it myself but seeing Chris Roberts being put to task sounds interesting.

Yeah I don’t understand how they arrived at that conclusion. It was nothing more than a pre-scripted diffusion attempt, one of those cases where people try to get ahead of something before the news breaks.
The idea that Sandi was throwing hard questions because she is thinking like a “concerned” backer is almost delusional.

i don’t think sandi comes up with these questions…

haven’t watched, taken the info as them being upfront and forthright. which is a good shift from previous years where deadlines approached and we were told there was no delays despite all evidence to the contrary, only for for said deadline to wiz by and 2 weeks later them coming clean it was never going to happen.

so it’s an improvement. another one of many i will take gladly. and hope this new leaf they’ve turned is genuine sincere and long lasting.

The folks on Reddit also claim the world is flat.

just so everyone knows the paradigm of releasing what’s ready and pushing back what’s left has been the modus operandi for the past year now and i’ve really liked it compared to the dark days of 2.x and prior.

feels more like a serious early access alpha instead of some teenager’s MLM pyramid scheme thing.

a rather improbable series of events led me to beign teleported across the stanton system the last time i put some time in so i will leave you with that:

While I remain sceptical about whether this game will ever release in a state anything close to a polished state and I have concerns over how pay to win it will be , I must admit your videos are a more positive and effective way of showing the promise that it might eventually offer .

And certainly far more effective in showing the community who play the game in a positive light .

the in game community isn’t the same people shit posting on social media for the most part. and they’re really friendly in game for the most part outside of the occasional griefing or protest stuff which clearly those people are out to disrupt the game rather than genuinely enjoy and play it given their means to grief (they aren’t ganking or anything usually just ramming people ships as they spawn on pads.)

you get outside the game tho and the community often seems to be all kinds of different shit but at least in game is nice lol.

Good to know . I must admit it is those kind of posts that from those kind of people that may have given me a negative impression in the past . I don’t think they do the game a lot of favors but I certainly will keep an eye on it during free to fly weekends . It’s actually your videos that have peaked my interest as to is potential .

then fair warning this is my first session with dogfighting at all (happens to be pvp) and they did something to the controls i really didn’t care for and then on top of it tuned up the black out sensiticvity to 11.

basically we had a full server to ourselves for a multi org event and the fps was quite low often times but in addition to that controls felt super over sensitive. i’ll note one of the mouse pilots in org said dogfighting has never been easier for him. and i know i was half tempted at one point in these dog fights i did get into to switch to mouse and play like an fps lol
